ECHL Salaries?

Post by Eazy Z »

Just wondering... Me and a couple of friends are heading down tomorrow for our first ever nailers game and we started talking about how much players in the ECHL make on an average...

I'm sure there are a couple of variables that would determine their salaries, but if anyone has some information on this, it would be appreciated.

What is the salary cap in the ECHL?

The weekly salary cap for 2007-08 is $11,200 and the weekly salary floor is $8,200.

What is the minimum salary for an ECHL player?

Teams are required in 2007-08 to pay rookie players a minimum salary of $340 per week and returning players a minimum salary of $375 per week. A returning player is classified as a player who appeared on a team’s season-ending or playoff roster or who has played in 25 or more professional hockey games.

FYI, $340/week averages out to $17,680 per year. The team is also required to pay for housing, healthcare, and travel, but it's still gotta be tough to live on $17k, especially after they take taxes out of that.

But that is the minimum and you do not have to worry about rent. I know a number of them have other jobs.

Plus, is the $340 a week just during the season? They would definately have to have off-season jobs.
