Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Dustin Jeffrey has been assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Jeffrey was selected by the Penguins in the sixth round (171st overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft. He was signed to a three-year entry-level contract on October 9th, 2007. Jeffrey recorded 97 points (38 goals, 59 assists) in 56 games with Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season. He led the OHL with 10 game-winning goals and tied for the league lead with seven shorthanded goals. Jeffrey was named to the Western Conference roster at the OHL All-Star Classic this season and scored one goal in the contest. In four seasons in the OHL, he scored 252 points (100 goals, 152 assists) in 246 games played. He added 32 points (10 goals, 22 assists) in 31 career playoff games.
Jeffrey joins Casey Pierro-Zabotel (third round, 80th overall), Luca Caputi (fourth round, 111th overall), and Keven Veilleux (second round 51st overall) as the fourth member of the Penguins 2007 NHL Draft class to join the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this month.
