Pens Defense and Pk had a bad period, So did David Brown. Richmond looked good in the fight. Stone mixed it up, got dirty all period, and got rewarded with a goal for it. It's funny, i've seen him play that type of game in WBS a decent bit. I don't understand why he doesn't bring that to camp.

Another bad period by the defense, The backup goalie played pretty well or it may be worse than 5-2. Stone had another good period, as did Pesonen for the most part. I'm disappointed in Caputi's icetime so far, he's rarely played even strength. He looks pretty good on the PP when he get's a shift there. He's been on the ice for both goals.

Overall a very poor game by the Defensemen, they have some jelling to do. PK really sucked as Hershey went 5 for 7. Puck support was very poor by the entire team all night. Nobody worked that hard in their own end, especially the PKer's. Stoney took a shot off the ear late, hope he's okay. Hershey's got a pretty good offensive team. They're filled with guys that'll score a ton in the AHL, but never do anything special in the NHL (ala Jason Krog). It's only the first game, they'll be ok. John Curry is gonna help a lot.

From the sounds of it, if Stone had brought that kind of game to camp, he'd probably still be up instead of Thomas or Bissonette.

Just got home from the game...
- That was one of the best games Ive ever seen Stone play. Definitely no demotion letdown. His injury in the 3rd was very scary looking. Took a slapshot to the ear when he went down for the block.

- Engelland, Lovejoy, and Kemp were decent (in that order). The rest of the D were horrible, and that is an understatement.

- Boogaard had so many good checks lined up, but missed all of them but 2. His timing is off at this level. Maybe that will improve as the season goes on.

- Way too many penalties. It would be a tough sell to blame this game on the goaltending. Almost all of the blame goes to poor decision-making, discipline, and passing.

- Lastly, Bonvie got fat in the offseason. He was out for the ceremonial puck drop and had a pretty solid beer belly going. For any who care, I'd guess somewhere in the range of 20-30 lbs. added on.

Engelland and Lovejoy looked lost on the PK, I'm not sure they were decent.

I said the same thing to my friend about Bonvie, quite impressive that it took him such a short time to look the way Kevin Stevens does now.

You're right about the PK. The entire PK unit looked lost. I thought that Lovejoy looked good at the point on the PP and was very confident at even strength. Engelland played his normal solid game at even-strength. That's why I said they were decent, and not good or great last night. Other than maybe Ryan Stone, I wouldn't say anyone was good.

One other thing I wanted to mention is, that although he looked lost at times, Pesonen really surprised me with how much contact he initiated for a European player in his first NA game. I'm used to seeing in WBS the Pirjetas, Mikhnovs, Koltsovs, etc., who acted like soccer would have been too rough a sport for them. Pesonen actually looked for contact at some times. It was funny, but when he looked lost, you could see him look around and then try to shoulder someone. It was a little humorous. Definitely has a ways to go yet though and he will never be considered a power forward. But, it looks like he's trying to be an all-around player.
