2014-15 Pitt Basketball Thread

Post by Dickie Dunn »

Season opens tonight against Niagara. Other than Indiana and possible opponents in the Maui Invitational, its your standard cakewalk non-conference schedule, giving Jamie Dixon plenty of games to get his over-coaching, overuse of timeouts, and lack of trust for his players down pat before the conference schedule starts.

More exciting is the news that Pitt with be participating in the 2015 Armed Forces Classic, squaring off against fellow highly ranked, but has never made it to the Final Four, Gonzaga at the Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler in Okinawa, Japan.

In a word, no. The starting lineup appears to be:

PG - James Robison
SG - Chris Jones
SF - Jamel Artis
PF - Michael Young
C - Joseph Uchebo

Top guys off the bench should be Newkirk, Johnson, Jeter, and Randall. Robinson still can't score. Jones is only there until Cam Wright returns from injury. Durand Johnson is the best shooter on the team but Dixon will never give him the playing time he deserves until he can play defense like Jaron Brown. A healthy Uchebo will be an upgrade at center until his knees disintegrate again. Jeter put up decent number as a freshman at Vandy, but hasn't played D-1 basketball in two years and probably needs to learn how to play defense like Julius Page before he's allowed on the court.

The roster is a whole lot of "meh", but Jamie Dixon tends to do well with mediocre players.

After this football season, I'm not sure that I have the emotional energy to lace it up for Pitt hoops.

Durand Johnson is a huge loss. I would say he would have been pitts best 3 point shooter this year

I always thought it to be one of the more underwhelming ACC atmospheres.

actually I was just trolling. It was pretty sweet to see in person.. The atmosphere though, yeah I can see it. They won by twenty and everyone was pissed. Spoiled maybe? Idk. Not much of a student section. So many banners though it's unbelievable.

Lost to Hawaii last night. Hawaii lost to High Point earlier in the season. Being a Pitt fan is just the absolute worst thing a person could do to themself.

Dear Pitt: I know you usually curl in to the fetal position when under the spotlight, but if for once you could just not be yourselves and instead play like a team with a spine that would be fantastic.

Looks like that was a resounding "No". James Robinson is easily the worst point guard this team has had since the program's resurgence.

Nevermind, Pitt is Pitting. Will this team raise the CBI or CIT banner this post-season?
