I just checked the score and as usual, WV is hitting all 3's. I can't believe they attempted that many but it's the reason why Pitt is losing this game so far. Hope they can reverse the trend and come out strong in the second.

You obviously didn't see the game between the same two teams at the Pete a on Feb 9th. The then 14th ranked Panthers beat the then 9th ranked Mountaineers and pandamonium abounded.

Anyways, I think the fans in WVU stormed the court more as a celebration of the senior class that played its final home game tonight than just beating Pitt.

I think they were celebrating the fact that they're guaranteed not to see Nova or UConn in the Big East Quarterfinals.

The bye will be pretty huge too, its hard to play 4 games in 4 nights in any tournament situation and match up with someone who has played one less game on that third or fourth night and come away victorious.

As a side note on another thread the Bryce Jordan Center was built for $55 million in 1995 so if that $35 million dollar estimate was in 1992 that would be very plausible.

To state the obvious, they have exceeded expecations. I thought they were a tournament team from the beginning, a tough, experienced PG and a 7 footer are a tough duo in in college basketball, and they had the role players to help them.


This is tough to say because Krauser may be my favorite player in the post-Willard era, but this team will be better next year when they figure out an 8 or 9 man rotation (assuming Gray stays his last year). Krauser had a lot to do with tonight's loss, he pressed way too much in crucial situations, which really isn't like him.

Still, I don't think there's a less appreciated senior leader in college basketball than Carl Krauser. People see the X and the hot dogging and get the wrong idea about Carl Krauser. I truly think he is the bridge between the rebuilding of the program and what lies ahead of this team. He bought into Howland, Dixon and Knight and has tought more talented players how to play the game.

Sorry, bit of a tangent...This year, I think they matchup favorably with teams like Nova, WVU and Duke, because they can throw guard after guard after their best players. Starting Degroat has been a mistake for most of the season, I think Dixon is trying to reward a good kid from a tough background who works hard everyday, he is really better coming off the bench. I think they will struggle against teams who have a strong front court game, like an Iowa or OSU, due to depth. I think their ranking is justified, and they will advance two rounds in the tournament considering the teams they will be facing will likely be guard-oriented.

You betcha. Pitt gets props from me on having a season that far exceeded anyone's expectations. (Even most Pitt fans).

WVU is going to have their hands full next year because they lose 4 of their starting 5 and Patrick B. off the bench as the 6th man too. Pitt will most likely dominate them next year.

Having gven Pitt it's props, it's amazing to me the antimosity Pitt fans have toward WVU. Remember, WVU athletics (And Marshall) are the only real sports the people of WV can call their own. They get passionate about their teams. I love that. WVU fans passion is what first made me a WVU fan over 25 years ago. (I went to Pitt night school while working at Mellon in the early 80's - meanwhile my younger brother attended WVU, there was no question which program was more fun to root for - I spent all my weekends with my brother and his friends in Morgantown!)

The celebration in Morgantown last night was without incident. Like Rasbatch said, It was an honest celebration a win against a rival, an important three seed in the Big East, and mostly, celebrating the Senior class of a team that's given the fans YEARS (Not just one) of enjoyment.

I'm happy for these guys, but I'm sorry to see the regular season end. This crew has given me reason to celebrate, (and cry) over the past couple of seasons. I wish them the best of luck.

I'm a big Krauser fan. I don't think Pitt fans realize how constrained he was by the Howland/Dixon offense the past few years. The way they milked the shot clock put him in a no win situation. This year things have opened up and he and others have looked much better since they are able to run the offense and take the first good shot instead of trying to shorten the game. The change in style was necessary if Pitt was going to keep recruiting talented players.

I think their improved offense gives them a chance to break the Sweet 16 barrier this year.
