Odd, if we were gonna share an affiliate with a team, the Canadiens would have never crossed my mind. I would think we would share a minor team with say the Blue Jackets (because of how close they are) or Minnesota (because of Fletcher).

Back in the day they were the affiliate of the Canadiens and Oilers, who I think also shared a team in Hamilton. That's when Vokoun played for them

Didn't we recently share the Nailers with the Flyers?

Correct, also a few seasons ago EDM shared a team with WBS. i know most ECHL teams lose money so sharing a team just makes good business sense for the clubs

The only problem that I would have with sharing an affiliate is goalie development, which I consider the most important thing that an ECHL affiliate offers. If you want your goalie prospects to get games in, it's not always going to happen if the head coach has to play politics in order to keep two masters happy.

This is a great point. I think the affiliation agreement with the Flyers stipulated they were to provide X players and 1 goalie, and they supplied Jeremy Duchesne and later Michael Teslak. Then they set up something where they loaned Rejean Beauchemin to Dayton. This is not a good year to share an E affiliate because we are probably going to need to send 2 goalies to Wheeling.

Fleury + Johnson in Pittsburgh
Curry + Thiessen in WBS

That leaves Killeen, Modig and Pechurskiy. Pechurskiy is probably going to WHL, but management seems pretty intent on Modig playing in North America.

From someone that isn't too familiar with this, is this a common thing? How does sharing an affiliate even work?

I don't think it's very common, but it does happen. Wilkes Barre took on 5 or so prospects from Edmonton at one point.

It is a cost saving thing. Problem is like with the Edmonton/Pens agreement, one teams prospects always suffer. In that case I think Edmonton's prospects suffered.
