What are the chances that NHL Network will air the celebration live?

My concern is that us not under the network that broadcasts Penguins game will miss it and NHL Network will have a 2 minute compressed showing on NHL Tonight.

Doubt it’ll happen, but how awesome would it be to sign a 1 day contract and play that night before retiring.

That would probably put us over the cap. Better to trade Carter to Kladno for Jagr's rights, then sign Jagr for one day only. $3 million off the books!

Czechia as a whole is quite nice. The Bohemian countryside around Prague (and nearby Kladno) is quite lovely.

Posted about it before, but I’ve been to Kladno and seen the Knights with the man (owner) watching in his box (late summer being there for training before heading to Calgary). The team was pathetic, but the atmosphere, Czech beer, and hot dogs were superb. As mentioned, Kladno is a really nice town not far from Prague and quite close to its airport. Czechia/Prague/the Bohemian countryside are beautiful and it’s a great visit. One other trip I was there, the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash happened and makeshift memorials with candles popped up everywhere for the three Czech players (Pavol Dimitra [Slovak]was the biggest name who perished along with a number of former NHLers). I really felt the love of hockey in the country at that time.

To be clear, I didn't mean it as a shot at the Czech Republic in general. I've never been and I'm sure it's beautiful. More just a whimsical quip at Carter who probably doesn't want to go past the end of his cul de sac if he doesn't have to, let alone Europe.

I'm sure no one understood it as a jab at Czechia.

Carter will be on the roster like one of those Stan Lee cameos. Can't get rid of it, might as well give the token time and move on

The Pens are starting the Jager weekend with an event at Rivers Casino:
The weekend will kick off at Rivers Casino with ‘An Evening with Jaromir Jagr’, presented by Coors Light and Rivers Casino, on Friday, February 16. Longtime Penguins TV and radio personality Paul Steigerwald will be joined on stage by Jagr for a fireside chat along with his former teammates, Kevin Stevens, Phil Bourque and Jay Caufield. The intimate conversation will take guests down memory lane, spanning three decades of Jagr’s career from his arrival to Pittsburgh as a teenager to the emotions of having his number raised to the rafters.
They better keep Jags away from the tables. He's still playing in Czech to pay off his gambling debts. LOL.

PPG is going to be next-level rocking and emotional at the same time on Sunday. Gonna be quite a ceremony from the looks of it.

At 52, he's still better than 90% of the dog**** roster the Pens put on the ice.

Kevin Stevens and Phil Bourque are with Jagr tonight. No 66. FSG really needs to right this situation. Mario never loved the limelight but it would be great to see him out there to hang with arguably the 2nd/3rd best player in team history.

Counterpoint: Maybe Mario wants the spotlight to be on Jagr. He knows if he was there he's steal a bit of the limelight.

I would wager he'll be in the house for the actual jersey retirement.

From Rossi @ the Athletic:
Inside Jaromir Jagr and Mario Lemieux’s quiet, misunderstood friendship
Rob Rossi
Feb 16, 2024

A day after Jaromir Jagr scored the signature goal of his seismic NHL career — an inventive, daring dash across the ice while weaving through multiple members of the Chicago Blackhawks before besting Ed Belfour with a backhand shot late in regulation in Game 1 of the 1992 Stanley Cup Final at Pittsburgh’s Civic Arena — Penguins coach Scotty Bowman spotted Mario Lemieux in the players’ lounge. Bowman asked Lemieux how Jagr’s goal compared to any of the many breathtaking ones Lemieux had scored in his career to that point.

I haven't been a fan of Rossi for a number of years now, but that is some good stuff right there.

Probably still better than whatever we have on our fourth line on any given night
