Seems a bit odd? For a guy who can't get out of the ECHL? Heck, I wanted Butcher in Pittsburgh over POJ and Ruh, ha.

Cajkovic was Poulin’s linemate at the Q it sounds like.

From the Wild side, Jared Spurgeon is now out with season-ending hip and back surgeries, so I believe they wanted to add someone like Butcher for additional depth that has NHL experience.
From the Penguin side, this seems like we just said ok, you can take him and we'll take back any contract you want to give us. Cajkovic was a 3rd round pick, but he's done nothing to date...played almost 4 times as many games in the ECHL as the AHL. Would have liked to have gotten something more of value for Butcher.
Penguins fans: Hurry up and do something, Dubas.
Dubas: Here, hold my near-beer.

Apparently, it was a gesture of good will towards Butcher and meant to display the human side of the organization. Butcher was too far back on the depth chart to get a shot.

Didn't someone say he played with Poulin in juniors? If that's the case, and taking Poulin's mental health problems, it wouldn't be impossible that Dubas noticed the connection when talking to the Wild and took a flyer on Cajkovic for personal reasons. Idea that no return is going to be great so might as well take him. If lemieuxReturns is right, this wasn't a hockey trade as much as a personal trade so my thought isn't too far fetched.FLPensFan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:31 pmFrom the Wild side, Jared Spurgeon is now out with season-ending hip and back surgeries, so I believe they wanted to add someone like Butcher for additional depth that has NHL experience.
