Official GDT: Pens @ Hawks 2/15/24

Post by DelPen »

At least Puustinen was called back up and not some other fringe player along with Gruden, thankfully Johnstone is out so that’s probably why.

And Bedard scheduled to come back tonight too which will be swell.

Would like to see Smith with Sid. I think we've all seen the Smith/Malkin combo long enough.

There's not much else left in WBS to call up. Johnstone is hurt long term, Poulin still day to day. Zohorna, Nylander, and Koppanen the only other options. The rest probably aren't NHL ready.

Let’s hope this movie isn’t a repeat of last night’s.

I have very low expectations.

In the past, the weakness of our AHL club allowed us to scoop up unsigned college free agents. Maybe we can start that practice back up again.

Hawks goalie is 2-15-1. Watch his Brodeur impression tonight. Or not.

Growing up I always thought of Messier as being the ultimate captain. I think Sid has become the greatest captain. I know I am biased but it’s hard to imagine a better player who leads the way he does in the history of the league.

Seriously, who would sign with the Penguins if they have any other options? This franchise used to promote from within (ZAR, Sheary come to mind) but now a UDFA has to compete with any barely NHLer the GM can find on the UFA market. I get that the chances of a draft pick succeeding are low and UDFAs even lower, but it has to be frustrating for a prospect to come into training camp year after year knowing the roster was set in July and August, with the waiver wire usually being the determining factor, and the only way to make the team is a rash of injuries. Why not go to any number of teams that will allow you to compete for a roster spot?

This is ugly hockey. Looks like two lottery teams playing interrupted only by the Sid goal.

This guy really sucks, I’d have been upset if Jarry or Ned gave up that goal.
