Jagr might have a couple years left in the tank for pro hockey. NHL level? Maybe. Maybe not. Part of the reason he left was he couldn't handle the 82 game seasons any longer.
That means he has a very small window to make as much money as he can, to hold him over for the rest of his life.
Why would he play for the Pens at or near vet league minimum? The Pens aren't going to throw 5 mil at him. Why would he sign here for several millions less than he could grab in Europe? And he could do that with less games to play.
I wouldn't personally mind seeing Jagr return to the Pens and finish his hockey career. But the numbers just don't seem to fit. And I don't blame Jagr one bit if he looks to get as much cash as he can during the limited playing time he has left.
I can't help but laugh at the posters who sardonically make remarks about Jagr being "about the money". I'm absolutely sure any of those people are also about the money in their own personal lives. They don't work for well below their worth, but somehow if a pro athlete won't do that he's some sort of greedy, heartless bastard.
