Me too, I didn't think it was ever a possibility until now when it seems to be gaining momentum from a few different sources, not just the typical rumor crap.

Although at the same time part of me is just thinking since all the talking is being done by Jagr's agent that maybe there isn't much NHL interest and he's trying to act like there is just to drum some up.

Shero is not the only Penguins' official on Jagr's mind.

"I talked to Jaromir yesterday about Pittsburgh. (Jagr) loves that team, that city," Svoboda said. "I also spoke with (former Penguin) Robert Lang and he told me Mario Lemieux is trying to reach Jagr right now to talk."

Mario usually gets what Mario wants. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he the 'driving force' behind the Kovy and Hossa deals?

Both of those didn't seem to be 'Shero type moves' but they still ended up happening. Could this be the same type of situation?

I'm having trouble imagining that this will get done, because it's like a fairy tale. Jagr really wants to come back to play for the Penguins at an extreme discount for a 1 year farewell tour to repair his relationship with the organ-i-zation and the fans?

People get nostalgic and start to worry about their legacy as they get older and end their careers. If Jagr were to come back to PGH and have a positive impact, it would be a storybook ending (especially if we get a cup) to his career.

I know it is hard to believe coming from Jagr, but I am hoping age has brought him some wisdom. Mario was always his idol

More optimistically, Jagr wants to come back to the NHL for one final chance to win which is why he is interested in DET. It just so happens, PIT would also give him a great chance at winning and coming back to repair his relationship here would just be a bonus.

The last time Pens fans got this hyped it was over Crosby skating.
We know how that turned out.

This could be a major stumbling block in negotiations.

Why do I feel that this report is just an agent's job of driving up the price it's going to be for the Red Wings to sign him?

Yeah, I never thought this coudl be real and he'd never be back. I think in the past, the Pens didn't need him, and I still think that today. I think he'd be a nice pickup for a good price, but the Pens don't need to bend over backwards to bring him in as they are doing just fine w/o him. With a healthy Sid and Geno, they are a contender every year.

And prior to this year, Jagr seems to not have wanted to come here for a discount. I guess however he wants to repair the relationship here, finish off a great career where it started, and where he has spent 11 of his 17 NHL seasons, and play with a new generation of superstars.

I think Jagr is on board, the question is, are the Pens, and can they get him for the right price w/o screwing up their long term vision.

If he does sign, I will be a very happy man. He has always been one of my favorites, and I'd love to see him one last time before he hangs them up as a Penguin.

I don't understand how some of these reporters are coming to their conclusions

I'm seeing this in almost all of these reports / articles

Title / Thesis of Story: "Jagr wants to play in Pittsburgh" / "Penguins front-runners in Jagr chase"

Content of article: Agent says Jagr has talked to Pens and 3 other teams

I believe the content, I just don't get the conclusion (which is what seems to be getting people riled up)

I think it is a mix. I think he is truthful in that Jagr really wants back with the Pens. However, the Pens have to be on board. If however the Pens aren't on board, at least for what he is looking to get Jagr signed at, then this could drive up what the Wings would offer.

If it is, so be it. I want Jagr back, but no need to kill our cap next year for it.
