I don't mind the 18 too much, mostly because I'm a JGR fan. It'll be interesting if Kurt gets a ride next year. Who would pick him up? Also, I think David Ragan is dancing at home right now.

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
It would be cool if they could lure Stenhouse away from Rousch and into Cup. Evidently, Penske has done that before. Stenhouse is a nice young talent that would compliment Keselowski real well (last two Nationwide Series Winners). Stenhouse has a good thing going at Rousch, but he has to wonder when he's going to get a shot at NSCS. They just lost Ragan for funding, and it's not like Kensenth, Bifle, and Edwards are going anywhere. Not to mention, they don't even have sponsorship for Kenseth right now! You couldn't pass up a ride like this, IMO.
I bet Clint Bowyer is kicking himself right now (not that he could have anticipated this).

Kyle, while he does moronic things, doesn't seem as mean spirited as his brother. I have not heard Kyle be as nasty to his crew chief (or the media) as Kurt has to nearly all of his.

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
Much of the fanbase's distaste stems from the hate it had for his brother before Kyle was even in a Cup Car. Kyle is a baby at times, but he's not much worse in terms of total package than Harvick and others. Kyle, while responsible for much of his issues, began in NSCS career handicapped by his brother.Point Breeze Penguins wrote:Kyle, while he does moronic things, doesn't seem as mean spirited as his brother. So Addington quit Kurt Busch, goes to Stewart. Grub fired after winning the championship. JGR fired Mike Ford today from Hamlin's team. Eying Grubb.

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
Whoa, crazy turn of events.
Best Buy ambivalent about coming back to Richard Petty Motorsports and AJ Allmendinger's #43
RPM indicates that it would be willing to bring Kurt Busch in if they'd stay.
Looks like Kurt is going to go to RPM
Best Buy jumps ship and will sponsor Kensenth
AJ Allmendinger then jumps and takes Kurt's #22 Shell/Penzoil Dodge for Penske
Now, Kurt Bush is still without a car and the #43 is without a sponsor.
The Keselowski Allemendinger duo will be pretty cool for Penske, IMO.

Allmendinger will win 2+ races next year. Bank on it.
It is nice to see two guys earn a ride in a top car (looking at you J.J. Yelley, David Ragan, Joey Logano, etc...).

I think the AJ and BK duo at Penske will instantly become a team favorite.
Kurt Busch signed with Phoenix, who is a pretty minor team. However, Phoenix gets its engines and chasis from Hendrick. It'll be interesting to see if Busch works with Stewart-Haus or if Hendrick technicians help out the Phoenix team.

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
I wonder if Kurt regrets leaving Roush the way McMurray regretted leaving Ganassi?
This same type of fate could have befallen the younger Busch - but the younger one is so much better a driver and creator of sponsor exposure that it saved his ride long term.

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
Looks like Ragan to the 43 even without a sponsor. This may be a better long-term deal than Penske for Ragan, as he would have almost certainly been replaced quickly at Penske.
Relantel, you may know this. How do the partnership agreements about engines/chassis work?
Hendrick supplies Stewart/Haas and Phoenix
Rousch supplies Richard Petty Motorsports
JGR-Toyota Develpment Racing supplies all Toyotas?
RCR and EGR - are a partnership.
Penske - are there even any other Dodge teams?
Who supplies the smaller teams? They can't conceivably make their own, given the size of their programs?

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
There are other motor builders that are far less known.. and of course less powerful. One that comes to mind is Pro Motor. I think another might be Ernie Elliott Engines. The Hendrick motor program is extremely expensive. In 2007 Ginn Racing leased motors from Hendrick for 3 cars and it was a base of $12.8 million. Have to think that cost is even higher now. I would assume the chassis are just as much.TheHammer24 wrote:Looks like Ragan to the 43 even without a sponsor. Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
Yeah, it looks like they had a big break through today by making the grill more horizontal. It looks like they're getting closer to pack drafting, but they will inevitably break into a two-car tandem at the end. Because of that, there is no real urgency to get to the front of the pack. All in all, I think there's progress, but as long as the two-car tandem is permitted, it will be there at the end.
Here are Bodog's Odds on the Sprint Cup:
Kahne and Kensenth are pretty good bets. Indeed, I think Kensenth is absolute steal at those odds. Newman at 40/1 isn't too bad, but I don't think I would take it. Hell, he's a better bet than Kurt Busch or Greg Bifle at 25/1. I wouldn't take that Jr. action either - no way.
Here are Bodog's Odds on the Sprint Cup:
Code: Select all
Jimmie Johnson 9/2
Carl Edwards 6/1
Denny Hamlin 8/1
Kevin Harvick 8/1
Kyle Busch 8/1
Tony Stewart 8/1
Jeff Gordon 10/1
Clint Bowyer 12/1
Kasey Kahne 12/1
Matt Kenseth 12/1
Brad Keselowski 14/1
Dale Earnhardt Jr. 18/1
Greg Biffle 25/1
Kurt Busch 25/1
Ryan Newman 40/1
Jeff Burton 50/1
Juan Pablo Montoya 50/1

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
From what we saw at testing the 2 car tandem was not a whole lot faster than being in the pack. Even single car qual runs are only about 7 mph slower, was about 25 mph slower last year. It will be good if it takes a push to make a pass, the key is having a rules package that doesn't allow 2 cars to pull away from the pack by like 5 seconds. I think as soon as somebody hooks up to take the lead, another 3 laps later they'll need to switch and the pack will run them down.TheHammer24 wrote:Yeah, it looks like they had a big break through today by making the grill more horizontal. Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
This is ideal, but I'm still skeptical. I just don't see how they can balance the overheating such that it overheats when in tandem but now when in pack. Last year, it was just too easy. Really, they just need to make the first 450 miles meaningful. None of this crap where people intentionally pit on the second lap of the caution because track position is utterly meaningless.DMcGrew wrote:From what we saw at testing the 2 car tandem was not a whole lot faster than being in the pack. Ward Burton out of retirement to race in the Truck series at Daytona, in a truck his son Jeb will drive much of the season.

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
You guys see the 2013 Ford Fusion that will be in the Cup series starting in 2013? I LOVE the looks of this car.. love the return to a more "stock" appearance. NASCAR and the manufacturers are definitely headed in the right direction! I really like how they did the fenders on this car.. no more lame flat sides.
