Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
Danica gets guaranteed 10 Spots for her car.
Stewart Haas traded points with Tommy Baldwin racing. The two teams "share the #10 car" so that it will accumulate owner points in all of the races in which it competes--whether it's David Reutimann or Danica Patrick. Some people are annoyed by this, but the bottom line is in today's economic conditions and where there are double-digit start-and-park cars, guaranteed position for a big-money sponsor like GoDaddy and SHR is really good for the spot.
It would be utterly awesome if Danica won or got a top 5 at Daytona, and the way the plate races have unfolded recently, that seems entirely possible. I'm cheering for her. I don't think she'll do anything special on the Cup side, but I think she can compete regularly for top 10s on the nationwide side behind the Cup racers and Stenhouse/Sadler.

As an aside, I mentioned a few times that I recently got into NASCAR (like midseason this year), and the sport has accelerated to my favorite behind Pens hockey and Steelers football. I've read, literally, 100 times more offseason NASCAR stuff than I have on post-wildcard football. What is it about the sport that I find so addicting?

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
haha, I just picked up the sport about 5-6 years ago myself. It really is a lot of fun. There's been some letdowns for me recently (the crappy pairs racing at restrictor plate tracks, the repaving of Bristol), but I still greatly enjoy the sport. I rarely watch races from checkers to checkers though.TheHammer24 wrote:As an aside, I mentioned a few times that I recently got into NASCAR (like midseason this year), and the sport has accelerated to my favorite behind Pens hockey and Steelers football. I'll probably decrease the frequency with which I watch checker to checker. Then again, I'm becoming DVR-addicted when I watch sports, so i'll probably put the FF on and watch for interesting things.shafnutz05 wrote:haha, I just picked up the sport about 5-6 years ago myself. It's amazing how quickly you can watch sports that you DVR. You can watch a football game in 30-40 minutes or a hockey game in a little over an hours without missing a second of action.

RaceHub was 2 hours last night. Only got as far as Danica before I crashed though, as I had already stayed up to watch the rest of Doctor Zhivago on TCM. Dang, that film is long. Good, but long. Will FFWD through the rest tonight

Very, very pumped. I love Speedweeks....and it's a blessing that Daytona is generally only two weeks after the Super Bowl.TheHammer24 wrote:Shootout Saturday Night. Woot! Pretty excited.

I think title favorite will be Harvick. 24/48 in the hunt.

I despise Harvick. 24 is a decent choice. I think the Fords will regress this year.

Rules:
You must have a full roster of 8 Drivers (2 A-List, 4 B-List, and 2 C-List) in order to submit your roster. Add Drivers from the lists below.
NOTE: Bonus points will not be awarded for qualifying in the Daytona 500, because the starting positions are determined over a two-week span. The bonus point structure for qualifying will return with next week's race.
Why are there no Qualifying Bonus Points awarded for the Daytona 500?

Johnson's car was modified, possible suspensions to come. I'm a big 48 fan so this is disappointing to hear. Although the last time they got caught cheating I'm pretty sure they went on to win the Daytona and 5 straight championships haha

If this holds true during the race, this is absolutely fantastic news. NASCAR has managed to kill two of my favorite things (Bristol and restrictor plate tracks) in recent years, so this would be an incredible improvement.Kaizer wrote:saw some of the practice today, looks like the 2-2-2-2-2-2-2 stuff is gone. thank baby jesus.

48 problems again? Knaus got suspended down at Daytona when Johnson won the 500 (2006 I think)

Knaus has been suspended twice - also don't forget at the last plate race he was heard on the in car camera telling Johnson to "crack the back" if he won.relantel wrote:48 problems again? Knaus got suspended down at Daytona when Johnson won the 500 (2006 I think)

Re: LGP NASCAR Thread
If the Duels are a prelude to the 500, it will be a great one. Couple hard crashes first duel, and no yellows in the 2nd one. Kenseth wins #2 the way Michael Waltrip won the 2003 500 - with the help of a lapped car. And who knows about #1, sure looked like it was going to be a good finish at the line had the yellow not come out. (Ask Mark Martin about that - had yellow come out like that at the end of the 2007 500, he's the winner, not Harvick). Who knows, Earnhardt might have finished like Harvick
Was it just me, or did it look like the 88 was hanging back in the early part of the first duel, perhaps trying to avoid any wrecks? He was upfront at the start, and again at the end. The 2nd Duel should disavow any notions of that being a good strategy for the 500 - can't assume there will be yellows or that one can catch the leaders (They didn't in the 2nd duel).

I'm watching both duels tonight and it's killing me that people have posted in this thread and there's a Danica Patrick thread on the front page. Not looking at the posts, but really looking forward to the race.

Just watched the last 10 (or 16 I guess) of the Truck race. Those kids were having some trouble pushing. Insane wrecks. Another Patrick-esque wreck in that one too.
