The rule will be that if my daughter wants to be on Facebook, then she has to friend me. I also plan on monitoring the router logs to see if any funny business is going on.

How do you lock down their phones though? Do people not give their kids a full data plan? Just phone and text?
is facebook even going to be a thing when your daughter is old enough to worry about?
Yep. Because old people use it. they all still have AOL email addresses. They'll never use anything else.

Facebook is dead when it comes to teens. It's a site their parents and grandparents use so it's definitely not where they want to be seen. It's all about Twitter and Instagram. I'm sure in 3 years some entirely new sites will have taken over.

One of my employees friended me on FB. She's fresh out of college, so apparently that is normal? Anyways, yesterday she called in sick. Later that afternoon she posted a pic of her going mudding with some friends. I liked the photo. The first comment from one of her friends was "Sick!" So I commented "Sick! (pun intended)"

Luckily I'm of the opinion that the days are theirs to use as they please, and sometimes you just need a day off. I didn't tell her this until today though, after letting her stew on that for a night. I also advised her that one day she will have a boss that does care, so be careful what you post.

It's actually really fun catching employees like that on FB as long as you have a good sense of humor.

i think anyone who posts one of those mass posts, "FB just changed their privacy settings...blah blah...take me off of your list thingy and I'll do the same for you...blah blah" should just stop using facebook, if they're that concerned about such things

I saw someone one time post a picture of an engagement ring on facebook and said to keep it a secret as he was proposing that weekend. Unfortunately, he was friends with his soon to be fiance on facebook and she saw it.

Dumbass.

 No. I have a facebook account, but rarely ever use it, and when I did get engaged 8 years ago, I didn't even know how to use that crap, if it even existed.

Being friends with college students/work study students can be interesting. I got an e-mail from one of our work study students, calling off her whopping 2 hour shift. This after I monitored drunk Tweets the entire afternoon, evening, and morning of the day she called in "sick."

Another student, now a graduate, went on Facebook to complain about her dog chewing up her sex toy. With pictures. Of the dog and the apparatus in its mouth. She's friends with our Dean/Provost, many of her professors, the president of the college...and her photo albums can be publicly viewed. Good luck getting a job.

A former I.T. department co-worker ranted and complained about his new job for weeks on Twitter, Google+, and Facebook. All publicly available. He was fired shortly thereafter. Not only should he have been fired because of his online ranting, but I don't think I would want anyone working for me - in I.T. network security - that was dumb enough to post all that stuff out in the open.

It's funny how the social networks of choice change for the college age group. When I started here in 2007, it was all about Facebook. I joined Twitter in 2009, and very few students had heard of it or used it. We do an annual survey and it doubled from 15% to 33% usage from academic year 2010-11 to 2011-12. I'm sure it's higher on other campuses, but the jump was significant.

My boss has a very strict "no co-workers" policy on Facebook.

I did a search and the word "poop" returned about 11,780 matches. Less than I thought.

I would read alot less odd things on FB, if people bothered to use snopes.
