exactly that is why i am curious about the initial points you receive. by that notion the US air/airline specific cards that award you 35,000-50,000 miles are the best bet

If you're flying Southwest, the earlier you check in, the better your boarding position.
Is that partly what constitutes the A|B|C boarding groups? I just assumed that was by fare paid.
Yes. Business class is usually mostly A boarding and people who pay $10 extra for it.

edit: You can check in 24 hrs in advance and just print your boarding pass at the airport.
I paid the $10 for the trip to Vegas. I want to see if it's worth it, because there is no guarantee you end up with A.
Yeah. I checked in exactly 24hrs ahead of time before and ended up with B20 or something.

Did you pay the pre-board fee? If you wait until 24 hours before, your chances of getting a A boarding pass are slim. Southwest reserves the first 15 passes to business select -- premium purchase price. The next 15 are for A-List club flyers that didn't pay for business select. After, those that paid for the pre-board get passes, followed by those that wait until the 24 hour before period. B20 isn't bad. Third group on.

After months of deliberations we are finally booking our honeymoon at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro in Punta Cana, DR. We are booking through CheapCaribbean.com which gave me rates $400 lower than anywhere else. My question is this - should I pay the extra to get the "Travel Protection" insurance? Or is it a scam/not worth it.

like any insurance, it is your preference. are you risk seeking or risk adverse? does the additional cost outweigh any potential utilization?

Nice choice. I stayed there a little over a year ago and loved it. Be sure to check out the shops on the beach adjacent to the resort and to get ready to barter for some stuff. There is a nice Aldi's there. I think its between the store called John Wayne and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Every 2 weeks, my extraordinarily well-off half-brother is posting pictures/check-ins to some of the most ridiculous destinations. British Airways First Class Lounge, Bora Bora, New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti, etc etc etc.

Oh, did I mention that he is a trainer and gets all expenses paid to travel around the world and visit these destinations? Man...
