Re: NBA
Thought it was BS when I saw it the other day, but good stuff:

Collins in for beating out Sam as the first openly gay athlete to play in NA.

Re: NBA
Think it would have more meaning if he came out then played in a game soon after, like maybe sometime in the next year and half. But this was definately to beat out Michael Sam. And so many people riding high horses on twitter "Why is this even a big deal???????????"

Re: NBA
I'm assuming the to beat out Michael Sam comment was a joke? Collins wanted to play earlier, it was just that nobody wanted him at the time because he's pretty bad at basketball. Injuries happen during the season, though, and the Nets desperately needed a backup big for their stretch run. That's really all there is to it.

I dont follow this junk so if thats what happens that I'm mistaken. All I saw was he was signed to a 10-day contract today, immediately gets into a game, and the media goes nuts. Seems really forced.Staggy wrote:I'm assuming the to beat out Michael Sam comment was a joke? I'm just really thrilled that between Obama and Jason Collins the travesties that are racism and equal rights for the LGBT community have been solved during my lifetime. It feels really special to be a part of that.

Re: NBA
Nah, the Nets have had injury problems so they're trying to find a big that can give them 10 minutes a game and not be horrific. The 10 day contracts are pretty common in the NBA, it's just a tryout to see if he will fit. If he does, they'll likely extend it for the rest of the season. If not, they'll offer a 10 day contract to the next big on their list.DudeMan2766 wrote:I dont follow this junk so if thats what happens that I'm mistaken. I think it's a fair question. It's also fair to wonder if he'd already been on a roster had he not come out.columbia wrote:Nope. It's step one of the big takeover.ulf wrote:Would he be on a roster if he didn't come out?

Re: NBA
The history of the world tells us that it's more likely to be the latter.
My hope is that it's just that no one felt they needed his services until now. If he can't stick with the Nets, I assume his career is over.

there's a legitimate role to be served by veteran big men in the NBA. teams need guys to step in, take up space and rack up fouls to prevent easy buckets while the talent rests. i think him being in the league as a fringe player isn't suspect.

The sleeved jerseys are the most disgusting things I've ever seen.
I literally cannot watch college basketball because of the kids that wear tshirts under their jerseys.
Also, as a Heat fan, nothing really matters for me until the Pacers series in the playoffs.
