I'm guessing your resort is all inclusive.

Regardless of what you're told, be sure to tip. Tip your maids, tip the bartenders. It's appreciated, and they remember who tips.

Lots of clean towels, extra bottles of water, immediate service at the bar...

Although I did find they weren't as friendly as the Bahamians. The Bahamian bartenders and cleaning staff were incredibly friendly and excellent at their jobs.

We tried tipping in Jamaica. It was refused every single time. We were being inconspicuous about it too. Maybe they recently had a crack down on accepting tips but I wasn't able to give any.

But in all seriousness, what are you in town for? How long is your stay?

I would advise to stay in the harbor area with your hotel. You can venture to Fells Point and Canton.

wow. we're going to be in Chicago in August and I just looked up reservations for the Girl and the Goat. very little available and none that fit our schedule which was pretty flexible. is this place THAT great? this is almost as difficult as getting reservations to French Laundry in Napa.

Has anyone stayed in any of the resorts off the Strip and closer to Lake Las Vegas?

I'm thinking since I'm going by myself in September, I was thinking of not staying on the Strip.

I stayed at Texas Station (not so much a resort) when I went to Vegas. it was ridiculously cheap ($39 a night?) and very clean plus the first 2 nights I won $400 on the Penny Slots.

I stayed at the Golden Nugget in old Vegas. Depends who you're with I guess. I was coaching a 17 year old baseball team so we stayed off the strip. 15 min ride to the strip, and much much cheaper.

I'm thinking of staying here. I want a resort experience. A little more expensive, but not horribly expensive. And they have a shuttle for the airport and Strip.

I stayed off the strip last year when I went for a bach party. It was a timeshare at the Westgage Flamingo Bay Resort (a little ways past The Palms). I don't think you can really appreciate how different the experience is off the strip. I guess it's okay to stay off the strip, and it is definitely cheaper, but I don't think it's as enjoyable. Being on the strip from 10 AM to 4 AM and taking a cab back to catch a shower and a few hours of sleep is less than ideal.

Flamingo is probably a decent off-strip street to stay on, though.

We were at a couples resort this past November... same thing. We tried tipping. It was a no go.
