And yeah, as they get older they fall asleep on you less. It's kind of nice when they don't feel good and pass out on you - even in the middle of the night.

Sorry to hear shad, teeth would've at least gotten her something out of it.
That reminds me, whenever we go to the doctor with a bad cough they ask me to describe it.
Dry, wet, hacking, barking, etc.
I don't know, it's just f'ing annoying and makes her gag in her bed in the middle of night. You listen and tell me what it sounds like.

Thank you. Luckily she cried at the doctor's. The doctor walked into the exam room and immediately said she had croup. Gave her a steroid shot...Mom is out tonight and she actually went down pretty easily (bathed, fed, zonked out by 7:15). Of course, the trick is going to see how long she sleeps comfortably for.CBear3 wrote:That reminds me, whenever we go to the doctor with a bad cough they ask me to describe it.

A sleeping child is like a time bomb. You're just waiting for it to go off and hoping the bomb squad (adequate amount of sleep) gets there in time.

After about 15 months, my daughter's sleep has been like clockwork. I guess we're lucky. Though we worked hard on getting a routine down - and we pretty much never deviate from it, even a little.

Re: LGP Parenting Thread
Starting around 4 months or so, our daughter settled into a pretty nice routine. Short morning nap, long afternoon nap, sleep anywhere from 7 PM to 6:30 AM or so. Agree on the routine part, we definitely strive not to deviate from it at all. She goes to day care during the day, and I think they've done a really nice job getting her into said routine.
I also think it doesn't hurt that she started rolling from her back to her belly in the crib at like 3.5 months and sleeping that way. As soon as she started sleeping on her belly, her sleep habits completely changed.

Re: LGP Parenting Thread
I had one kid that had many allergies and struggled with eczema and wouldn't sleep well (he would scratch all over all night
). He outgrew it fortunately, but is still an early riser...unless it's a school morning. Saturdays? He's up at 6 am on Minecraft or other such video games (He's 8 now). We've had to lock up the office/game room to keep him off of it...
Now, his younger brother is a different story. As an infant, we would place him swaddled in his crib and he would be out for 12 hours. Naps? Same thing, down for 2 hours...it was like God said "The older one was enough of a pain, I'll give them a break with the second one." He still sleeps in some mornings, but as he and his brother share a room, the older one often wakes him intentionally/unintentionally.
It's really funny how different two kids from the same parents and upbringing can be. Shoe tying has been problematic for the older child. My wife (a teacher with more patience than I could ever have) sat with him for HOURS one Saturday earlier this year, and after writhing around and whining, he learned how to tie his shoes. He still doesn't like untying them, so he can slide them on though.
His younger brother watched this intently and BEGGED us to teach him how to tie his shoes. He sat there and figured it out, after a few quick demonstrations. He really wanted to figure it out...never whined about it, just kept working at it. Pretty cool.

Our boy was the same at about 6 months as far as night time was concerned. I was talking more about nap times.shmenguin wrote:After about 15 months, my daughter's sleep has been like clockwork. Routine. Can't stress it enough. Dinner, play time, bath, jammies, story, prayer, song, bed. Every night. It's like Pavlov's dog. Once he gets in that bath he starts to rub his eyes.
When he was an infant we used to use Jar of Flies by AiC to soothe him to sleep. We pull it out every now and then if he doesn't want to nap. Nap times have become a bit more of a challenge as of late. I think he's starting to grow out of the daily 1-4 or 2-5 nap...

DI3K 15, 11 & 10
Oldest around 2 would not potty train, tried the cool under wear, potty books, bribery even told him he couldn't go back to pre school till he was trained... nothing worked, said "i go school later". Mom thought he'd go to collage in diapers. We just gave in and every morning asked him if he wanted big boy pants. He responded "Na maybe tomorrow". This became a joke for us and went on for several months, till one day he said yes. no accidents since. 2nd and third no issues waited for them to say they were ready. We found that the other two would follow us or their brother to the bathroom they wanted to be like us and be big boys and girls. Funny story, one day i had to pee in i go getting started my youngest runs in he HAS to go too. I said no problem little man saddle up there is room. He drops drawers and we do business. He looks up and says "hay this is just like when my and Sis have to go at the same time"
"Hay bud how do you and sis go at the same time?" "She sits and just leans forward, i pee behind her"
I asked him to never do that again.
My suggestion for parents of multiple kids, get the older one involved in caring for their siblings. The more they are included, the more they won't hate that new thing that has invaded their lives.
My oldest is a die hard Star Wars fan, we watch walking dead together
I coach my Daughters Hockey team, she knows more players in the NHL and AHL then myself
The Little man is my boy scout we camp together
Find something special to do with each kid, make it their time

She got a steroid dose last night, really by like 2 or 3 AM this morning it seemed like the worst of it has passed. Seems to be back to her old self today, with the occasional hack.eddysnake wrote:Croup goes around my house a lot. Do you have any experience with vision screening for infants (not an exam by a regular pediatrician, but a specialized test for 6-12 month old babies, I think it's called InfantSee)?
My own optometrist recommended it - but none of our friends or doctors ever mentioned. I understand it can catch some bad stuff at the very beginning, but one concern is that the exam involves application of drops that cause eye dilation - with all the risks that the procedure carries...

Re: LGP Parenting Thread
Our daughter in law just gave us granddaughter # 6 at about 5AM today. I'm more amazed by kids as a grandpa than I was when we were raising our own. We babysat the babies 3 1/2 year old sister and was at the county park. They have a nice playground and had activities including those inflatable bounce around things. She was at full throttle for nearly 5 hours running, jumping , climbing with no sign of tiring. As soon as we left in the car she was in power nap mode. When we pulled into our driveway later I was carrying into the house when her BFF 4 year old girl next store came running over to see her. I told her she was sleeping. She opened her eyes and said"no,I'm readt to play". They ended up playing in her yard for another couple hours. It seemed similar to watching a forward play every shift in a game and then skate every shift in an overtime period.

Any dads out there sing to their children? We've discovered baby meow enjoys the harsh, off-key, fingernails-on-a-chalkboard singing voice of meow over the beautiful, 15 years of voice classes mrs meow.

That's awesome. Both our girls practically demand for us to sing them bedtime songs even though we have horrible voices. Now when their grandfather (a minister and pretty good singer) sings to them however, they actually fall asleep.

Our boy wants Hey Jude every night.
Also AiC's Jar of Flies knocks him out cold in a Pavlovian sort of way.

When he was an infant it was the only thing that worked most of the time to get him to fall asleep. Can't say I'm mad. The apple doesn't fall far sometimes.meow wrote:We are still on star light, star bright. Haven't graduated to Alice in Chains yet.

Yes. Not joking either. It was fine getting out of the bath and then less then a minute later BAM! Full on WTF IS GOING ON!? Our next door neighbor is a pediatric nurse so we had her come over.

Re: LGP Parenting Thread
My daughter is 8 1/2 months old. Sometimes after she gets out of her bath and is ready for bed, I will sit in the rocking chair in her nursery singing to her. I usually go with the mockingbird song, but just make up my own lyrics as I go along. She doesn't fall asleep, but there is nothing more wonderful than her putting her head on my chest, looking up at me, and listening to me contentedly. Those are the times I absolutely treasure the most.
