They control areas where previously there was a vacuum of power. They're toast as soon as they seriously threaten or attack an even modestly stable country.

I think the desire is to act now before that attack can crystallize.

The only world leader complaining about this is Putin.
Not only did Syrian dictator Bashar Assad refrain from lashing out against the American-led airstrikes, he seemingly gave a very coded thumbs up:

And in perhaps related news, Israel shot down a Syrian MiG-21 fighter in Israeli airspace today. The last time an Israeli IDF AF jet shot down an Syrian aircraft was during the 1981-1982 war in Lebanon, where the final score ended up being Israel 82, Syria 0.

Edit: Now reading that it was a SAM shootdown, so the 82-0 thing is even less relevant.

They're saying it was a SU-24 now and that it was shot down by a Patriot SAM

Saw varying reports that it was a MiG-21 and and Su-24, but I would imagine as time goes on we'll get a more accurate picture.

The F-22 Raptor has officially been christened in combat.

I've seen it reported on a couple different sites that the image is not IR video, but rather was generated from the Raptor's synthetic aperture radar.

Not to be picky, but blowing up the whole building would have been more effective.

If this is based off of the above video I would assume that we don't see the full extent of the damage. It appears that the rockets (missiles, whatever...) penetrated the roof and entered the building before explosion. I'm willing to bet the damage level of the building is larger than it may seem.

Not to argue semantics here, but I'd call that a destroyed building. It just had 2,000 pounds of bomb (JDAM) explode inside at ground level after penetrating through four floors. Structurally, I'm sure the thing is rooted.

U.A.E.’s first female fighter pilot dropped bombs on the Islamic State
Maj. Mariam al-Mansouri, the first female fighter pilot in the history of the United Arab Emirates, led the the Gulf state's bombing raids over Syria this week. Photos of al-Mansouri, beaming from her cockpit, that were released by the country's state news agency have taken social media by storm.

Apparently the ISIL knuckleheads think they will be denied their eternal paradise of virgins if they are slain in battle by a girl.

While I'm certainly in favor of women being able to fly and fight (provided they perform to the same standard as their male counterparts), it does strike me as a little brazen of the UAE to blast this woman's name and face all around the internet. (Said in an actual post where I show her name and face)

Fox’s Eric Bolling Apologizes for ‘Boobs on the Ground’ Remark:
Fox host Eric Bolling apologized Thursday for a quip he made yesterday about the first female pilot for the United Arab Emirates representing “boobs on the ground.”

For those not in the cable news know, when the roundtable talk show discussed that pilot’s involvement in UAE strikes against ISIS forces in Syria this week, Bolling asked: “Would that be considered boobs on the ground?”

I'm surprised they found time to cover the ISIS story with the Latte salute dominating the news globally.

I just saw something about the latte salute.
We're beyond hope if people think that is a pertinent issue....and since some do. Well, we're **** doomed.

I think the commander in chief should know how to salute properly (which I am sure Obama does) and he should do so every single time (I'm sure Obama does almost all the time). That being said if he fails to do so on occasion I don't see it as a big deal.

Before Reagan, presidents did not salute. And while it was remarkably bad form by Obama, I'll withhold my rage until people start pointing out that you aren't supposed to salute uncovered. Meaning every presidential salute is wrong.

No one's equating it to ISIS or anything else significant.

It's just the latest clown log to go on his raging bonfire of failure.

I think we need John Steigerwald to weigh in on this, along with his adults wearing sports jerseys, people with tatoos, celebrating without reaching the top accomplishment, and everything else old men hate.
