I believe that Pitt would get slaughtered by the likes of Alabama.

Unjustified kangaroo bashing in the prior page of this thread. But you can't dispute the lack of interest in this thread goes hand in hand with games like this Iowa game. Pitt blew it in horrid fashion once again. There was some voytik bashing and that is understandable. He may get better but it is sill up in the air.
What isn't up in the air is the fact that this secondary stinks.

there was an incredible lack of pass rush, every deep ball felt like playing russian roullete and Iowa stuffed Conner well enough in the second half. was worried that was going to happen after the announcer mentioned that he was unstoppable

They probably would but the list of teams that wouldn't is substantially shorter than the list of teams that would.columbia wrote:I believe that Pitt would get slaughtered by the likes of Alabama.

Re: 2014-2015 Pitt Super Panthers Football Thread
Voytik looked like Tino in the Iowa game. Forcing throws, locking on one receiver, throwing off his back foot, etc.
We all know that HCPC is all raw-raw run the ball down your throat, but he really should have let Voytik throw the ball more against the likes of Delaware. Now he has no confidence and it shows.
Really need to start involving the tight ends more in the game plan too. Or maybe Voytik needs to recognize when they are wide open half the time. Or maybe a combination of both.
I was out of town so I couldnt make the Iowa game (though I did watch it). What was the crowd / atmosphere like? Any guesses on butts in the seats?

What we saw out of Voytik & the passing game against Iowa illustrate my biggest concerns with the offense this year. He made some absolutely brilliant passes that show he's certainly got something to work with, but you can tell he's still adjusting to the speed of the game as well as finding a fit into the scheme.cheesesteakwithegg wrote:Voytik looked like Tino in the Iowa game. Chryst appeared to recognize in the post-game that Voytik was locking on to one receiver and not making his progressions. He was specifically asked about the lack of involvement of Holtz & Orndoff in the passing game and said something to the effect of (paraphrasing), "There were plays designed to get the ball there, and the ball didn't get there." It didn't translate as well to TV, but friends who were there said there were a few plays where guys who were CV's later progressions were wide open. He just didn't see them.
Voytik was a dual-threat QB coming out of high school and was recruited to run a spread option, so he may still be trying to find a comfort level in this scheme. He seems to throw off his back foot when he's the pocket and sees pressure coming, but may not realize he still has as much time as he does. I wonder if it may help to let him throw from designed rollouts a bit as well; it may allow him to see some of these other receivers. Plus he can always tuck it and run. He's clearly a threat running the ball.
As far as the crowd, I heard it was much of the same. Stadium wasn't empty but it wasn't exactly packed. Student section was apparently crowded and they stuck around.

Re: 2014-2015 Pitt Super Panthers Football Thread
So I went to akron. I've been debating who to root for since this game was announced. Given the circumstances of each team's season, the loss for Pitt would do a lot more damage. I have chosen to root for Pitt as a Pitt season ticket holder but next year at the Info, ulf will be sporting his Zips colors proudly. Wait they're the same colors. Maybe I'll just wear a plain Navy blue shirt.

I'm assuming ESPN3 for us locals too. I didn't see it on the tv guide anywhere.

Voytik had plenty of time to make that throw on the first drive on third down, he just missed Boyd.Old Time Hockey wrote:Voytik needs to make that throw
He needs to get better, and he will. He also needs to look for someone other than Boyd at times, Pitt has two really good tight ends that can be safety valves.

Good god if there is no run game and we have to rely on the passing game, we could be in for a long season

Well at least an INT there to not give Akron any points after the turnover.

At this point, that's way too harsh on Tino. Voytik is pure suck.Old Time Hockey wrote:Voytik is tino sunseri 2.0 but faster

What happened to Conner? If it's serious, I'm assuming the annual trip to Birmingham is in jeopardy.

That's good. I haven't caught any of the game and no one mentioned that he was back... was worried.skullman80 wrote:Conner came back in. He seems fine.the wicked child wrote:What happened to Conner? If it's serious, I'm assuming the annual trip to Birmingham is in jeopardy.
