Re: 2014-2015 Pitt Super Panthers Football Thread
So from what I can tell the only LOI that hasn't come in yet is that WR from Texas that gave a verbal a week or so ago.
Then you have the QB from Ten that xferred. So that puts the class around 15 barring any other flips coming Pitts way. Small class, but good work done by Narduzzi with such little notice to get some quality players in after some decommits from from Chryst left.

Miami kid who was pretty much unrecruited until November. Only other D-1 offer was from UCF. Mississippi State recently showed some interest, but from what I can find there is no record of him even having an offer from Ole Miss until he committed. Guess the allure of playing in the SEC (and any other recruiting magic worked by Hugh Freeze) was enough to get him to commit without even visiting the school.slappybrown wrote:What happened thereDickie Dunn wrote:Lost Shawn Curtis to Ole Miss. With the recent departures I'm hoping for a few late pickups, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Ole Miss probably put some $$$$$ in his bank account. I'm semi-serious... it just sucks cause Pitt is can use any influx on D they can get, and he would have probably had a chance to get some early playing time.

Hugh Freeze came in and Ole Miss became a recruiting powerhouse overnight. He's either a magician or shady business is going down.skullman80 wrote:Ole Miss probably put some $$$$$ in his bank account. Pitt is still in the mix for Adrienne Talan (other finalists are Nebraska and Temple) who is announcing his decision at 1. Would be a nice pick up after the past two losses, but I expect him to go to Nebraska, because what Florida kid doesn't love all that Nebraska has to offer? Would really like to see a JUCO DE added to the class.

Snooze.
Peak says they are done. Given the overall situation he walked into, they did a good job moving from abysmal to average overall. Losing the 2 or 3 defensive recruits at the end was less than ideal given how weak they are there. They needed the bodies, and this somewhat pushes back his reconstruction project on the defensive side back a year. I can't imagine Whitehead isn't out there on opening day starting.
What's up with Titus Howard?

Should be coming back from suspension as a redshirt sophomore, no?slappybrown wrote:What's up with Titus Howard?
I read a recruiting update about a week ago that mentioned the coaching staff talking to Whitehead about their plans for him. The talk included Jim Chaney and his plans for using Whitehead on offense. With the lack of proven depth at receiver I'm sure the coaching staff will explore ways to get the ball in Whitehead's hands.columbia wrote:Whitehead will take play on offense too?

I thought Talan had flipped? We're back in the hunt for him? Guessing with the Givens flip Narduzzi put the full court press on him.

He decommitted from Oregon State when Mike Riley left for Nebraska. The same coaching staff is recruiting him to Nebraska, so its expected he will sign there, but Rob Harley apparently spent the past week going all out for him and got Pitt into the mix.slappybrown wrote:I thought Talan had flipped? Edit: Going to Nebraska.

According to Rivals, Pitt is dead last in the P5 recruiting rankings.

Well when you only have 15 or 16 kids after losing a couple big ones because of a coaching change. Under the circumstances the new staff did what they could, but the class wasn't great to begin with.

I hate the way the number of recruits factors into the rankings. Even without the last minute defections Pitt didn't have many scholarships to offer and won't have many next year as well. Just averaging the star rankings assigned to recruits, Pitt is at 2.86, which in the ACC puts them ahead of BC, UVA, Wake, and Syracuse, and .02 behind Duke. Other P5 teams they are ahead of includes: Maryland, IU, Northwestern, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Rutgers, Purdue, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Iowa State, Kansas, Utah, Arizona, Washington State, Colorado, and Oregon State.newarenanow wrote:According to Rivals, Pitt is dead last in the P5 recruiting rankings.
It's not a great class, but Pitt added an instant impact player, some offensive talent, and lots of speed on defense. Next year's recruiting class is one where they need to add some real impact players if they are going to put the program on the upswing.

Rivals only counts the top 20 recruits when determining rankings.Dickie Dunn wrote:I hate the way the number of recruits factors into the rankings.
