All of you guys have made some excellent points. I can't disagree with much of what has been said in here the last day or so.

I suppose the EU is developing drone technology that, instead of blasting them, let's them pluck up terrorists like the claw game at chuck e cheese

In case anyone has missed the other recent Islamist's hijinx.

I think it's too bad that most of the extremist atrocities weren't taped. It seems that videos are needed to tweak the attention of many people.
In the last month or so militants slaughtered school kids and teachers and Pakistan. ISIS has buried alive hundreds of Yazidi(sp?) women and kids. During a recent village massacre Brokul Harum killed a woman in labor who had the baby partially out of her. They've also been in a race with ISIS as to which group could kidnap the most females. A dozen or so Iragi teenage girls were publicly beheaded for insulting Allah by watching a soccer game.Iraqi Christian kids were publicly beheaded for refusing to renounce their faith.
ISIS also issued religious guideline on the "rapabilit"y of captured women and pre-pubescent girls. Virgin women could immediately be raped or sold to theirs. Non-virgin women were eligible after a "womb-cleansing "process.(sounds like a real barrel of laughs.) Girls were evaluated for some criteria as to whether they were rape-ready.My guess is the womb-cleanser squad made these calls. If this were all videoed the outrage might have some staying power. There are many Islamic terrorist factions who are just as bad as ISIS.
The burned pilot video will have the same shelf life as the Paris slaughter. A new plane crash or a Kardashian getting their knockers tatooed will replace it as the lead story.

if there was a video of children being burned alive, i would fear for the widespread mental health of the western world. the pilot video was enough of a horror. that would be indescribable.

I don't understand these people. Do they think they're going to get away with it? Or are they expecting for the US and others to bomb the living hell out of them so they can go out thinking they're martyrs?
It's just God damn stupid how crazy people can be

Just to play devil's advocate here... they don't understand how crazy and stupid you are for NOT being an Islam extremist. What do you think is going to happen when you die? God is just going to shrug and say "give him the 72 virgins anyways!"

I don't even think their beliefs are that strong, because they wouldn't be doing what they're doing if it were otherwise. They just get off on the adventure and excitement and false sense of power.

Re: ISIS Crisis
The ultimate goal is to establish the caliphate.
I'm guessing they are trying to intimidate the other Middle Eastern countries into backing down and not aligning with the US against them.
My assumption would be that the quality of life in those countries is bad for most people, the mindset of the populace is that their leaders, working with US interests is the cause of their ******* lives. People in those counties like Jordan would choose to fight with ISIS against their country, if larger scale fighting were to occur.

Sadly, this would be like blasting lung cancer with heavy doses of radiation after it's already metastasized to the rest of the body. There was a time when most of this nonsense was confined to a relatively small part of the world, but that's all changed.skullman80 wrote:I agree with this.ulf wrote:I wish we could get all the civilians out and drop some nukes over there. Re: ISIS Crisis
I saw some tweets from Fox news last night where a US politican said that the Middle East allies are saying the US isn't doing enough to help them and outside of some airstrikes, are ignoring the situation.
If that is true, what a joke. That is your home turf. We have been helping for over a decade. Noone, even our European friends cared to send but minimal help, and those guys in the ME basically let us use some airbases and that is about it. They need to step up and do the heavy lifting with some support from the US and other allies if they don't want ISIS to take over their entire region.
And the more they let this fester, and I also blame the US for this as well, the more it is going to grow to the point it is going to be very difficult to get it under control. Not only in that region, but all over the world.

What I heard was the issue was with the search and rescue apparatus for when airplanes are shot down.newarenanow wrote:I saw some tweets from Fox news last night where a US politican said that the Middle East allies are saying the US isn't doing enough to help them and outside of some airstrikes, are ignoring the situation.

The UAE pulled out of airstrikes because they didn't think there was a system in place to properly locate and retrieve pilots...hence the Jordanian pilot being captured. I guess the US response to that concern was basically "meh".
And the US has to do the heavy lifting, because the US is the only country in that coalition capable of doing anything independently. The other country's participation is more of a symbolic gesture.

Re: ISIS Crisis
I don't think ISIS was thinking so strategically. The just got lucky in capturing a Jordanian pilot, and they tried to make the most of it. I also don't think that the sight of a Muslim being murdered in such a primitive and barbaric way is going to swell the ranks of other Muslims wishing to join ISIS. In fact it most likely will do the opposite.tifosi77 wrote:There was a guy on Sirius this morning (a caller) who stated this. His opinion was that fundamentalist groups like ISIL can't really exist in a conflict-free world. They need to constantly be engaged with someone to bolster their recruiting. Things have not really been going their way as the U.S. led air campaign has been achieving some success (largely through attriting the bad guys), and so going at Jordan is another way for them to accomplish their goal. We shall see.Geezer wrote:There may be some credence to the view that this was an ISIS tactic to draw Jordan into the fundementalist inferno.

Re: ISIS Crisis
The point wasn't that the burning pilot video will get people to join up. It will be seeing the Jordanian response (i.e. other Sunni Muslims) bringing the thunder down on ISIL that will swell their ranks.
Not saying I agree with it, just sharing the commentary.

I agree with Troy on the caliphate....which means we both agree with Glen Beck. These "moderate" states have to commit to erasing ISIL or they are facing some real trouble.

Re: ISIS Crisis
What I think is lost in the discussion of "heavy lifting" is how much Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon have done to take in Syrian refugees.
We can all sit around and talk about the "heavy lifting" the US is doing, but why not airlift a few hundred thousand refugees here to the US?
Fact is, our "heavy lifting" is just paying taxes. We don't gotta do nothing. We just sit around debating about the playcall in the SB and try to determine whether a standing workdesk is worth it while pontificating about the situation thousands of miles away from our cubicles.
We're real heavy lifters, ain't we?
