That Pew Report is very thorough, and really interesting. Thanks for sharing, Avyran. Among the extremist views it points out:

- huge majorities of Muslims feel it's a good thing that non-Muslims are free to practice their faith;
- majorities in most Muslim countries are worried about religious extremism;
- in all Muslim countries the majority (and with few exceptions a very large majority) feel that suicide bombings are not justified.

In the U.S. a poll of young Muslims (believe it was under 30) felt that suicide bombings were justified "under some circumstances"(whatever that means). Meant to put a high % of young muslims ; approaching 1/2 I believe. I'll see if i can find it.

So the low end of middle east countries shows 1 in 14 people believe suicide bombings are acceptable. Pardon me if that doesn't really make me feel much better

ISIS claiming American female hostage killed by Jordanian bombing. If she's dead it would seem likely that they murdered her to stage such a death or they put her in a location where she'd likely be a bombing casualty.
They'll likely use hostages and civilians more in the future.

I thought the number of young muslims in the U.S. had a larger % accepting suicide bombings. i find it revealing that only 40% believe that the 9/11 attackers were Arabs.

They had a quick poll of her friends and family members. 100% of them found it sad.

I'd actually point it rather to the idea that Islam, due to its historical creation in a time of war - whether it was against the other Arabic tribes during Muhammad's time, or non-Muslim nations during its expansion, or other Muslim states during the Civil Wars (one of Muhammad's wives led a battle against his cousin, for example) - can be used to support a more violent ideology more easily than, say, Christianity (borne during a time of persecution for both Jews & later Christians) or Buddhism (inherently pacifist, as Gautama was trying to escape suffering). A much larger batch of the Islamic texts, both in the Quran & the Hadith, will deal with war. Thus, these sort of ideas are more easily defended by its texts.

I'm not saying Islam is a religion of war at all, and I'm not trying to nor will participate in any religious debates about it. Just looking at the historical context & noting that it can be used & twisted more easily than, say... Buddhism, to support criminal organizations (that will pose as Islamic) like ISIS.

Dude...come on.

Everyone knows that Christians are hateful war mongers greater than any in history. I mean, look at Hitler and Stalin (both devout Chritians). The Crusades!? How can we forget what that did to the USA as a nation!? Christians have done more in the last 1000 years to spread fear, hate, war, rape, baby killing, and murder than any other religion combined.

Dont even get me started on what the buddhists have done...

Meanwhile, the poll tif an I are citing was conducted by ICM Research, which is one of the largest and most respected public polling companies in the United Kingdom.
There was also a poll conducted by Pew Research that queried Muslims outside of the so-called Western world about Sharia and the applicability of Koranic law.

This same poll found that while large majorities of Muslims the world over say suicide bombings are never or rarely acceptable, it still meant that substantial minorities felt there were times when such actions were okay. Imagine living a population where 1 in 4 felt that suicide attacks were merited in some capacity.

Now, what I find very interesting is that the cited poll is nearly two years old. Similar polling today shows an increasing concern over extremism.... however, when you look at Turkey, they are only at around 50%. That means half the Muslim population isn't bothered by ISIL and their brethren. That scares the p|ss outta me.

He accepts it, 1) because I've cited it and linked to it multiple times in the past, and 2) he probably read it for himself before I ever shared it here.

I can't see Ellen Page without thinking of Ellie from "The Last Of Us". (And she gave Naughty Dog some stick for the resemblance, too)

My wife and I are in Season 2 of Trailer Park Boys, and I was kind of surprised since I didn't know a very young Ellen Page was on there.

Someone at State should answer for not destroying these vehicles to Iran's surrogate fighters who now run Yemen.

Per news reports tonight the Marines were ordered by the State to take the firing out of their weapons and surrender their rifles to Houthi officials. Don't know if another description is true that the Marines had to change into civies before being escorted to the airport. If this proves true state dept heads should roll. unbleepingbelievable

ISIS is trying to recruit remnants of the Syrian Electronic Army; Iraqi hackers; Iranian's, even South Americans. They're going nuts with trying to ramp up their cyber warfare right now. If you're a sysadmin prepare for a sh*t show in the next ~ 3 years, coupled with bullsh*t like North Korea, and the typical spam from China/Russia.

That's almost essentially what it is!

Their youth understands the internet, web services, etc, and they end up in these situations where they know just enough to deface a website, or shut down a corporate web service for 3+ days. Next thing they know, they're going up against organizations like the NSA/GCHQ/etc, which both are technically multinational conglomerates of the brightest minds from around the world. 2 days later, OH A DRONE BOMBED 3 HACKERS (KIDS) IN A HOME IN THE NORTHER SUBURB OF KAHLAKIKBAD, ALLAH BE PRAISED WE SHALL RAIN FIRE ON CORPORATE AMERICA!

Then guys like me and ExPatriatePen have to deal with it. EPP just gets frustrated and goes drinking, beats his ex-girlfriend and stalks women on the internet. I just take a week vacation to the Rocky Mountains and come back with everything fixed.
