She skipped study hall and is getting I.S.S. for it? That's bogus. I'd high-five her when she got home.Factorial wrote:Study hall.meow wrote:What the heck is flex class?

Re: LGP Parenting Thread
the one time I got disciplined in high school (a detention) was when I went to an afterschool virtual autopsy with the Forensics class when I wasn't enrolled in the class.
talk about badass...
of course I took the detention time to write my graduation speech (#4 in the class, suck it)

You gave a speech for being 4th in your class? Boy, everyone gets a trophy.

Not all schools do just valedictorian. We had 6 students give speeches for my graduation. Top 2 grades, 2 chosen by the seniors, and 2 chosen by teachers.
I was captain of our public speaking team and qualified went to nationals my senior year, so I was voted in by the teachers.

How did I even get in this thread. I wonder what thread I thought it was. Hmm.

Re: LGP Parenting Thread
everyone in our top 10 got to speak in some capacity. That meant pledge of allegiance for one and nine other one minute speeches about either the past, present or future.

Meh. We each had 2 minutes. The rapid fire is likely better than one person giving a speech that goes on and on.dodint wrote:Oh, I bet that's just delightful to sit through.count2infinity wrote:Not all schools do just valedictorian. Re: LGP Parenting Thread
Somehow the mother of one of our students gave a speech at ours. No idea why she was up there. She gave a really terrible speech. She tried to use "row, row, row your boat" as some kind of metaphor and said it about 15 times. It's the only thing I remember about the presentation that day.

And the punishment was....?Factorial wrote:Just received a call from my 8th grade daughter's school that she was caught cutting "flex" class and was hiding out in the bathroom and will have in school suspension tomorrow.
Thoughts on punishment beyond the suspension? She's had detention a few times but never been in trouble otherwise.

Re: LGP Parenting Thread
I'm assuming my daughter's molars are coming in. She's teethed before, but it hasn't been a big deal at all. The last couple days, she's had some low-grade fevers, her nose is running like a sieve, keeps tugging at her ear, cheeks are flushed, etc. Miserable. Motrin and some Kraken on the ol' gums seems to do the trick, at least for a while.

I'm wondering the same with my son, Shaf. His appetite has gone downhill the past week or two, but that may be partly due to his barf-fest last weekend. Do kids become picky eaters when they are teething?
