Just putting an opinion out there that it sounds an awful lot like words that are ridiculed from the other side, that's all.

Finnish Public Broadcasting To Read Entire Quran In New Series
Finnish public broadcasting is reading the Quran — all of it, a half-hour at a time.

Radio 1, the radio arm of broadcaster Yle, will begin reading Islam's holy book on March 7 in 60 installments of a half-hour each.

-----

"It's nice to hear my translation be read aloud. It is important that the Quran is read in its entirety, and not just select items that show that Islam is bad and violent or good and beautiful," Hämeen-Anttila told Yle.

I'm not really sure I understand how that is anything like "kill all apostates" anyway. Unless my understanding of what an apostate is is way off.

To a caliphate the act of apostasy is akin to treason if not worse.

Yeah, I'd say joining a terrorist organization is probably not akin to being a peaceful villager in a small village of the wrong Islamic denomination, that ISIS just happens to disagree with. I'd say one of those examples is far, far more worthy of being punishable by death than the other.

No need to get all culturally relativistic here.

I'd advocate the same thing if it was a christian, jewish, atheist or any type of enemy organization that was the enemy of the USA, wanting to destroy us. Not saying it because they are muslim.

TO the letter of their book, not to the majority of that book's followers.

No one is saying an eye for an eye. Western countries just need to say, if you join or attempt to join Isis you are a traitor and if you are ever caught, your sentence is death. You cannot re-educate the people that join these sick organizations.

Isn't a caliphate a government or religious entity or something? It sounds like more of the "letter" rather than actual practice.

From Wiki, which quotes a Princeton encyclopedia:
"A caliphate is a form of Islamic government led by a caliph —a person considered a political and religious successor to the prophet Muhammad and a leader of the entire Muslim community."

ISIS has been saying they're setting up a new caliphate for almost a year now. Oddly enough, no one else has recognized it.

imo, people who affiliate themselves with ISIS willingly need to be destroyed, regardless of anything else.

I think we just had a conversation the other day about accepting thousands of refugees from poor, war-stricken Islamic countries. Of all places, in Minnesota:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... omali-ref/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Among Minnesota-based Somali-Americans, American converts to Islam or Somali refugees, there have been numerous convictions for various levels of collaboration with Islamist terror groups, plus reports of fighting with al-Shabab or other Islamist groups.

On Sunday, al-Shabab made a propaganda video warning of an attack on shopping malls around the world, including the Mall of America in Minnesota. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the terror attack on the Westgate shopping mall in Kenya two years ago, which left 67 dead.

“We have definitely seen targeted terror recruitment videos, videos aimed and targeted directly at the youth here in Minnesota primarily within the Somali community,” said Kyle Loven, an FBI spokesman in Minneapolis. “They’re going after disaffected youth — those who are isolated. We can’t get into specifics, but we’ve been involved in major investigations since 2007 and continue to be.”

We learned that ISIS actually complains in their internal communiqués about their difficulty recruiting informed Muslims, because "Islam makes them tend towards life and their community". They find more success attracting Muslims they call "losers" -- ignorant about their Islamic faith and marginalized by drugs, alcoholism, crime, mental illness or recent life-changing events. That's not the sort of Muslim you would expect to know much about the religion, or to make good life -- or end-of-life -- choices either.

That's the point I was trying to make with my poorly worded post the other day. The other day probably being several weeks ago. It dovetails with what is said in the article shadraq linked about disaffected youth being targeted.

The loopy bit being that the people that are coming over from Western countries to join the fight tend to be from relatively stable and somewhat well off families. So sort of the opposite of that stereotype. (At least all of the ones from the West that I've seen in the news appear to have come from decent backgrounds that you wouldn't necessarily think would lend itself to radicalization.)
