Your latest outrage from ISIS:
Archaeologists and officials have expressed outrage about the bulldozing of the ancient Assyrian city of Nimrud by Islamic State militants in Iraq. IS began demolishing the site, which was founded in the 13th Century BC, on Thursday, according to Iraqi officials. The head of the UN's cultural agency condemned the "systematic" destruction in Iraq as a "war crime".

IS, which controls large areas of Iraq and Syria, says shrines and statues are "false idols" that have to be smashed...

BBC Middle East correspondent Jim Muir says the attempt to destroy Nimrud is already being compared with the Taliban's demolition of the Bamiyan Buddha rock sculptures in Afghanistan in 2001. As well as destroying artefacts, Islamic State also trades in them - and the trade is one of its key sources of revenue.
Sad. Things that have been around centuries are no longer there.

I read a nice article on how ISIS came to existence. What a screw-up by our idiot government. It's what they always do. We produce these enemies then fight them. Just like with Al-Quaeda. Great idea by Obama to arm the Syrian fighters, eh?

For my undergrad I took a class called The Cultural History of Iraq and it's really a shame about the black market antiquities trade and everything that has gone wrong since the museum in Baghdad was destroyed (not by US forces directly) during the initial invasion in 2003. And now again by ISIS.

ISIL has been a thing for years. They are a direct outgrowth of al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), which did not really exist before we invaded. First order of bidness: 'de-Baathify' the government and disband the military. Those people formed the core of AQI, and the total wackaloons eventually got expelled from that band of merry men for being too wackaloony and went on to form ISIL.

It's like the recipe for instant insurgency: just add neo-cons. Woohoo!!!

Arming Syrian rebels? Not a good option, but perhaps it was the least terrible one available.

Good to know that Jeb's getting the gang back together for when he's president.
Bush’s advisory team is being pulled together by two mainstream Republican foreign-policy experts who served both his father and his brother, Richard Haass and Robert Zoellick. They have enlisted not only old GOP lions like James Baker—who first served under Gerald Ford, then Ronald Reagan and distinguished himself as George H.W. Bush’s secretary of State—but also neoconservatives such as Iraq war advocate Paul Wolfowitz and John Hannah, Dick Cheney’s former national security advisor.

We armed Libyan Islamists before the Syrians. Khadafi was way better then ISIS and the militant Islamists battling them in Libya. That turned out well.

ISIS in Iraq is having a battle with 20,000 Sadr shia militia men with 10,000 Qud Iranian forces led by an Iranian revolutionary guard general.
Other than possibly the Kurds ,there are no good guys. Unfortunately this admin won't arm the Kurds, hasn't given Jordan requested arms and has terrible relations with Egypt (who is willing to fight ISIS) because Morsi and the Muslim Brohood were overthrow. Putin has rntered that void and become pals with Egypt. This puts Egypt back where they were until the 70's.

According to all-knowing Twitter (and reported by the BBC), Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to ISIS.
Nigerian militant group Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to Islamic State (IS), according to an audio statement.

The message, which has not been verified, was posted on Boko Haram's Twitter account and is believed to be by the group's leader, Abubakar Shekau.
