I'm going to talk with you closer to our visit to Charleston (end of June) on some other things, but what are some good breweries to seek out in that area? I believe we are staying in North Charleston (wifeys family lives there) and we will definitely be hitting up the Westbrook Brewery (which also says children are welcome). I see Coast Brewing is in the same area, so I'm sure we'll hit that up as well. We are getting pressure from my dad and brother to take a rooftop carrier to bring beer home in... We sampled westbrook last night and everything was great.columbia wrote:They make pretty good beer all aroundmeddysnake wrote:Just had a Westbrook ipa, wow is that good, another good one for the SE bracket

I'll keep the vote open through the weekend. Probably sometime Sunday I will tabulate votes and set up the bracket.

Is there anyone who prefers the DFH 60 minute to the 90 minute (on pure taste alone)? Genuinely curious.

The 90 min is far superior to the 60 min.

I prefer the 90 to the 60. I just feel it has more of an overall balanced flavor. I was lucky enough to enjoy a 120, however stupid enough not to age it. I was so excited about finding it, and ignorant to the high abv, I enjoyed it after a few Sierra Nevada's. Fun night, awful morning.

Re: LGP Beer Madness (IPA Edition) - Wild Card Voting
It depends on the season for me. In late fall/winter I prefer the 90, but all other times of the year, I think I prefer 60 minute. Additionally 60 minute was EPP's favorite, so I need to throw a shoutout to the man, the myth, the legend... Just had Hop Devil for the first time in awhile. I remember not being overly impressed with it the first time, and has the same impression this time. It's ok, but not one of my favorites. A little too bitter, which increases as it warms.

A commercial IPA. I try to stick to small beers & locals for that very reason.MWB wrote:Just had Hop Devil for the first time in awhile. I had hop devil on nitro a week or two ago. It was fantastic. Haven't had a carbonated hop devil in a long time, so maybe I was a little influenced by that with my vote.

Southern Tier 2X IPA, was very good last night. Ended up picking up a case of it.

All of my friends used to make fun of me when I first introduced them into the style. They were all "Of course you'd like this, Jack. Just smell it" Good timesDocEmrick wrote:Southern Tier 2X IPA, was very good last night. Ended up picking up a case of it.

Re: LGP Beer Madness (IPA Edition) - First Round
The Wild Card round is over. The top 8 beers were placed in the bracket. All beers are ranked based on the Beer Advocate average rating. Make a vote for one beer for each matchup. I plan to keep this round open for at least a week, so don't rush votes in, or feel like you need to make all your votes at once. Also, please don't vote for beers if you haven't tried them. In the same vein, just because you've tried one and not the other, don't feel like you have to vote for it. For example, if you've had Hoppy Feet and not Heady Topper, don't vote for Hoppy Feet unless you really think it is a stellar beer that you think should move on.

3. Cigar City Jai Alai (4.28)
6. Sweetwater IPA (3.97)
Midwest
1. Fatheads Headhunter (4.34)
8. Deviant Dale's (4.02)
4. Union Jack IPA (4.23)
5. Founders Double Trouble (4.21)
2. Chillwave (4.29)
7. Founders Centennial IPA (4.14)
3. Two Hearted Ale (4.27)
8. Great Divide Titan (4.07)
West
1. Pliney the Elder (4.66)
8. Green Flash - La Freak (4.02)
4. Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA (4.24)
5. Bear Republic Racer 5 (4.19)
2. Stone Enjoy By (4.43)
7. Lagunitas Little Sumpin Wild (4.11)
3. Stone Ruination (4.3)
6. Hoptimum (4.18)
I did no vote in the Southwest as the only beer I've ever had in that bracket is Sculpin. Some may find a couple of my choices odd... I prefer 60 min to 90 minute mostly because of drink-ability. I only like 90 min during chilly/cold months. Additionally, Le Freak is one of if not my favorite beer. It's awesome and it's uniqueness outweighs an overrated IPA IMO.

Also, if we'd rather do one region at a time we can, just thought it would drag on too much.
C2I, I think a lot of people will be similar with the SE region. I've had several of them, but obviously due to my location.
