Sorry about that earlier, guys. I seriously read this thread four times and never realized I was holding things up.

Kraftster, it literally could not be a smaller deal
We have 58 picks left to make in about 23 days. As long as we average about 3 picks per day we will still have enough time to do contracts!!!

Re: Werth, yeah at this point there isn't much left for OF veterans.
I was a little surprised how far Victor Martinez fell. I realize he's old and isn't great for a dynasty team but he put up some great numbers last year

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League
This recent development means Ventura will stay on my farm team. He's still farm eligible, and while I was planning on signing him to a Major League contract after the draft now I don't have to in order to use him all year.

I don't care and don't think anyone else will either, but is it necessary to announce that you intend to circumvent the spirit of the rules that we have in place? pop

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League
I'm not sure i'm cool with that one... we've always said the week or so prior to the draft was the decision time on prospects. If you say you are signing them you basically are qualifying them - you have to sign to a minimum of 1 year deal at that time or use a buyout to make them a free agent.
What's to stop someone from saying they want to sign a guy then deciding they got someone better in the draft and changed their mind?
I'll let others chime in but count me as a no.

Hence why I ask, I don't want anybody to think I'm breaking the rules.Idoit40fans wrote:I don't care and don't think anyone else will either, but is it necessary to announce that you intend to circumvent the spirit of the rules that we have in place? pop
He's farm eligible.
Say I hadn't said in the draft announcement that I was planning on putting him on my Major League roster, he'd have been listed as a farm hand. I'd have X number of draft slots one way or another. On my final pick of the draft, I could either pick a MLB player that I think will be better than him, or if one's not available I go with a prospect and use him on my MLB roster. Just like making a real MLB team out of spring training. There's been a handful of prospect picks in this draft that weren't designated as such. What's to stop somebody from deciding at the end who they're putting on the farm club and who's going to be on contract?
We use the week before the draft on whether you're going to keep a prospect or not, so you can't toy with people about holding on to a talent through the draft then releasing them to make sure somebody has to give up a free agent sign to get him. It's give him a qualifying offer or let him go. In this case, there was never a desire to let him go, the only question was whether he was going to play this year.
Yes, its fortuitous that one of my MLB signings is going to lose a year of his contract due to Tommy John's so I'm trying to make lemonade by getting a "free" year of Ventura.
If you don't agree with my view that this is different then the pre-draft period where we decided whether to keep a guy or not (and it now looks like at least two don't), then I guess I'll sign him to a contract. Can't blame a guy for trying.LOSS OF FARM ELIGIBILITY – Farm team players’ contracts will be reviewed prior to the draft. Any player losing eligibility must either be released to the draft or qualified by the team holding that player’s rights. This will occur during a window prior to the draft, and will be documented in the LGP Thread and the Google Doc. Any qualified player must be signed to a contract, and thus would require a buyout to be released. Contract length need not be designated until after the draft.

Lol. I thought the only way to win a discussion on the Internet was for the other side to give up :)Mr. Colby wrote:You might have actually convinced me

Sorry, guys. Crazy day for me.
CBear should be able to keep Ventura on the farm. The announcement he made was unnecessary and shouldn't be held against him.

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League
I think what did it for me was the "winning a spot" analogy and the fact that we don't require farm designation at the draft.
He had a legit injury - its not like he drafted cumpton or something so he could use ventura free.

...I was definitely going to look for someone that would be effective but was an injury risk up until stroman's season ended.

I didn't read CBear's argument, it just doesn't make sense to me that we hold him to announcing something that did not need to be announced.

OK, I'm now done after the Conforto selection. My roster is complete and I'll update the Google doc with my contracts.
