Also, Florida GM Bill Zito has spoken to goalie Spencer Knight, and they expect him back in the fall and on the roster.

Agree they’re actually serious people outside Montreal that think Price should be in the HOF? He was good but it’s the Hall of Fame not Hall of Above Average.

Whoever keeps putting the stupid off color name plate on the Flyers jerseys, please stop. It looks ridiculous.

Finally, on #Flames: Bit of a surprise. Told Mikael Backlund is also leaning toward not re-signing in Calgary.
That could change, and Flames hope it does. He's been a staple for 15 years.
Nonetheless, Craig Conroy has decisions to make.
1 year left on his deal at $5.35mill. Would be a solid 3C for the Pens. Limited 3C options out there...

What could we offer in exchange for him? POJ + Granlund for Backlund and a 3rd round 2024 pick? Or, make it a larger trade to include Hanafin coming back with Backlund?KG wrote:Frank Seravalli

I was actually looking at Markstrom and Hanifin for 2023 1st, 2024 3rd (VGK), POJ, and rights to Jarry.dark_forces wrote:What could we offer in exchange for him? That deal might work in theory (CGY rumored to be weighing whether to move on from Markstrom), however, even if we buyout Granlund after this deal, it will be very difficult to fill out the rest of the team. We wouldn't be able to afford Zucker or Zucker-type $$$ winger AND a ROR type 3C, and if we did, we'd be building a weak rest of the bottom 6.

Flyers reportedly turned down 25th or 29th overall and a future 2nd round pick for Scott Laughton. STL owns those 1st round picks.

Man, how do you feel right now if you are Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar? Those 2 guys get traded off of the Panthers (who make it to the Cup final), Huberdeau has a down season, but both guys sign max term deals to stay with Calgary....only to see Hanifin, Lindholm, and possibly Backlund all say they won't extend to stay, there are rumors of Markstrom possibly being available, and earlier Friedman said Tyler Toffoli has now officially been made available by Calgary.
Sounds like Calgary should just blow it up at this point.

That’s unfortunate. Calgary, as well as Winnipeg and Vancouver, deserve much better; yet the NHL continues to push expansion to the south. Sorry, just venting against the current powers that be (and have been for faaaar too long).FLPensFan wrote:Man, how do you feel right now if you are Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar? I still can't believe that the NBA, which begins its season after the NHL, is holding their draft tonight. Their finals also ended prior to the stanley cup final. The NHL needs to do a better job of wrapping things up before the NBA finals—like they used to do. The NHL playoffs should be a full round ahead of the NBA playoffs. I'm in favor of beginning the NHL season as close to Oct. 1 as possible, so the season runs no later than around April 15th.Ohio_Pens_fan wrote:That’s unfortunate. So just what the hell exactly is going on in Calgary that 4 players have said they won't re-sign? There were rumors at the end of the year of toxicity. But that was thought to be mostly Sutter. So what gives?

Also, don't forget Tkachuk said he wouldn't sign an extension, which led to his trade.ville5 wrote:So just what the hell exactly is going on in Calgary that 4 players have said they won't re-sign? The Athletic has an article today talking to Craig Conroy, and this was one of the first questions asked. He didn't have a solid answer, but he said he's talked to players that left or want to leave. Sometimes it's a US-Canada thing. Sometimes it's an East Coast - West Coast thing. He alluded to the weather and places like LA and Florida, but he said you play hockey for a living, the cold shouldn't be an issue. It's not like we're playing golf and you are better suited in Florida. He also said living in a place like LA and Florida, players seem to think they have more time than they do. Are they really going to do that much away from the rink in-season that it makes a difference? Plus, a lot of guys live in these places in the summer already.
I paraphrased and I think my statement of it comes off a bit condescending, but, Conroy really didn't (or wouldn't share) a real good answer for it. He did say he's talked to every team but Vegas (and he's texted with Vegas) about trades and what teams need, etc.

Fun fact I saw on the internetsss
Coyotes have more draft picks (12) in this seasons draft, then they have players signed (11).

#preds have traded Ryan Johansen to #Avs and retained 50 percent of his salary in exchange for rights to Alex Galchenyuk
Compher replacement?

Colorado acquires Ryan Johansen from the Preds (50% retained, 2 years left on 8M deal) for Alex Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk is a UFA in 7 days.
4M for a top 6 center for 2 years for the Avs is an outright fleece. Essentially nothing going back. Maybe Dubas CAN work some magic.

You don't think a top 6 C at $4 million should bring back more than Galchenyuk? Must've been a market of 1.

It's good insurance for the Avs if they lose Compher. Is Johansen a good, consistent top 6 player anymore? No, not really. He's always been a bit over rated. But he'd be a strong 3C for the Avs and could move up into the top 6 for injuries. At no cost to acquire, it's still a steal for Colorado.ville5 wrote:Fleece? Yeah I would have been happy if we got Johansen to be our 3C. Hextall got absolutely fleeced in the Granlund tradeFLPensFan wrote:It's good insurance for the Avs if they lose Compher.
