Miller does nothing for us at this point. He doesn't put us over the edge. Dubas needs to utilize MP and Rakell to get maximum future assets, high picks and prospects, or a solid young NHLer. Almost any trade for Miller is an abject failure.KG wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 11:44 amI hear you. We could probably get Miller for an MP package at this point. I always kind of wanted him because he would have been a major help at 2C to support Geno etc.Maestro wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 11:09 amConsidering how unsurprisingly abysmal the Penguins have been recently, I doubt they “buy”, but as I was saying, Miller”s value is at a definite low point atm; add that the model of “rebuilding on the fly” has worked for both the Rangers and now Capitals, that is likely still the mindset.

Of course both the rangers and caps axed their coach within the past decade so the Pens won’t have that in common.
MP and Rakell for Miller and Hoglander type of deal is probably not so outlandish. Hoglander has pretty much negative value with his $3mill AAV deal kicking in next season.
Then we can trade Miller in 2 years, retain and get some good young assets for him. Similar to what we will probably do with EK sooner than later.
I don't expect it too happen, but I wouldn't be shocked.
This team has been a lottery team all year, with the exception of a 2-3 week run. We're 7th overall. We are 7 points out of a WC spot, with SIX teams between us and WC2 spot. All of them have more points or games in hand. This team is not magically going to make a strong run and have SIX teams (not counting the 2 current WC teams) completely fall apart. Playoffs are not happening, and if Dubas can't see that, we're in big trouble.
We have 5 more points that 4th overall pick Nashville. If they win their games in hand, they'll pass us. BUF is sitting at 41 points. 3rd overall is a stretch, but at this point, this team has a much, much stronger chance of landing a top 5 pick than it does a WC spot. If Dubas can't see that, we are doomed.
Selecting one of Schaefer, Hagens, Misa, Martone, or McQueen would be a big boost to this club.
Then you go and trade Pettersson and get a high pick and/or young NHLer.
Then you go and trade Rakell for another high pick and/or young NHLer and/or another high pick.
This team has a chance to pickup 3 quality under 24 year old assets. This is why a full strip it down rebuild may not be needed if Dubas plays his cards right.
