I sincerely doubt this is it. Pretty sure more dominos will fall. Have to think Schenn gets flipped to a contender for futures.
Novak is only 27 and is a solid 3C which we don't have. I
Whiffed big time if this sticks and nothing further is done with this.

Yeah, really hope there's something else attached to that deal. I wouldn't expect Shenn to be here long, so I hate the fact that we somehow managed to get softer and easier to play against.Puck-Lurker wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 8:53 pmWe're paying a 4th rounder for the privilege of this...?!thehockeyguru wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 8:51 pmNovak is 28 in April. The Schenn part of the trade is a head scratcher. We essentially paid a 4th for Schenn Why move Desharneis if you aren't keeping SchennFLPensFan wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 8:58 pmMove Acciari out.
Retain 50% on Schenn and get a 2nd or a 3rd (not my idea, saw somewhere on Twitter)
If those 2 things can pan out, I'll like this more.

Don't you think you should wait a few hours before concluding anything. I feel very confident in saying we aren't done yet.Puck-Lurker wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 9:02 pmNope, this is it. It was probably more of them trying to fit Rakell in with the cap hit being higher than Novak. And the Pens saying they would take Schenn off their hands knowing they could probably get a 3rd for him and then Nashville saying fine but give us a 4th.

Schenn and Novak make 6.25M. Bunting makes 4.5M. I think we had room, but shipping out Desharnais made sure we had extra cap space to make this move. So, maybe Dubas took Desharnais in the VAN trade because he thought he could flip him, nobody offered anything of value, and Dubas was able to acquire another player (Schenn) that he believes he can flip for a better pick, like a 2nd or 3rd.thehockeyguru wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 9:02 pmThe Schenn part of the trade is a head scratcher. That is an insanely **** trade. It's bad enough on it's face and then you ADD a 4th? Jesus Christ what a joke. Not at all impressed by KD at this point. Unless there is some incomprehensible way this move is 4d chess that is somehow better than straight up moving Bunting in a better deal.... can't imagine how though.

So, Bunting is out and Rakell is likely gone too. Maybe we can get Doughty and a 4th back for Rakell and the Ranger's first.

Re: Penguins Trade Deadline: Buyers and Sellers?
I’m not sure the hate on these deals today.
Yesterday we had:
Desjardins & Bunting
Today we have:
Schenn & Novack and a 4th and 5th rd pick.
Not one player mentioned above is critical as we rebuild or retool. So does it really matter much what it does this year or even next? We suck and will continue to as we should
From an on ice side we obviously didn’t upgrade or move the needle but we didn’t down grown much either and got younger in Novack who’s easier to flip next year. And we got two picks and Luke Schenn can be flipped for a 3rd as he as more value the Desjardins.
I think this is more than decent asset management

We have enough veterans on this team. No need to keep Schenn around for veteran leadership stuff.

We will probably get several picks for Gryz and Beauvillier and Acciari by Friday. Have to play it all out. Schenn they can also get futures for. Board is getting fired up over a 4th round pick. We have a bazillion picks already.Antonio wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 9:09 pmNo we sent OUT the 4th. Re: Penguins Trade Deadline: Buyers and Sellers?
Yeah, I don't see the point of the deal for Novak and Schenn. Neither is young (Schenn is much older obviously), cheap, or all that good. Novak might be a decent 3C, but Lizotte probably would be around the same level as him if Sullivan played him there.
Edit: Looking at Novak's stats from the last couple years and not just this one, maybe it looks more ok. He had over 40 points in each of the last 2 seasons and 17 and 18 goals, respectively. That's probably better numbers than Lizotte would put up at 3C. Maybe Novak is just having a down year this year, like most everyone else on the Preds.
