It changed some years ago. Stanley Cup winner picks 32nd, runner-up 31st. Conference finalists pick 29th and 30th. Division winners fill up the remaining spots from 28th up to 25th. Then you use reversed regular season standings up until 17th.Puck-Lurker wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:44 amIsn't it just reversed regular season standings for the top 16 teams, regardless of playoffs performance?
So, WSH picks are 31st, 63rd, 95th and so on?

They changed the final four a few years back. If you make the conference finals you draft in the bottom four. Which is why I hope the Rags don't go on a run IF they get in.Puck-Lurker wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:44 amIsn't it just reversed regular season standings for the top 16 teams, regardless of playoffs performance?

Honeslty, I've been thinking about that. One or the other. KD's Toronto connects seems strong still.

Lately I've been thinking a 3rd and that's kind of what we got. A second round pick just before the 3rd round.Pitts wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:56 amLOL! I thought he was only worth a 5th or later? Lolloing at Pens fans!
I imagine everyone is happy with it though, which is rare in Penguins conversations of late!

This is true. We have a crap-ton of picks over the next couple drafts! And opening cap space! That is very exciting.Puck-Lurker wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:57 amLately I've been thinking a 3rd and that's kind of what we got. I really hope Dubas has assembled a stellar scouting department. Can you imagine what a cluster it would be if Hextall’s scouting department was what we were relying on?Pitts wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:01 pmThis is true. However, Hextall may have given us a lovely parting gift with the Rakell signing.

This is a good strategy by KD and may make it a little easier to sign one year type players this summer, especially vets - come in and play a good role on this team, mentor some of the kids (hopefully) and then we'll trade you to a contender at the deadline...

Re: Beauvillier traded to the Caps
Exactly. It has worked for other teams in the past. We should do this for sure. Play them with Sid or Geno. Pump up ther value and get an extra couple picks in the top rounds.Steve wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 2:09 pmThis is a good strategy by KD and may make it a little easier to sign one year type players this summer, especially vets - come in and play a good role on this team, mentor some of the kids (hopefully) and then we'll trade you to a contender at the deadline...
