I thought that with his supposed friendship with Aho he would have signed already. Carolina keeps screwing themselves with these deals! LOLdark_forces wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:55 amIs it just me or are we getting "real jerk" vibes from Rantanen? Nothing's good enough for him. He should just say, "I want to go to July 1st and not sign anywhere until then."

That's not good enough Blake. He won't play their defensive system. Wonder if they are out on Rakell?

Re: Official 2025 trade deadline
I have a feeling Dubas wants to keep Rakell as he believes he can continue to ice a fringe team capable of making the playoffs while still stock piling picks and younger players.
Losing our top two LW at one deadline makes it tough as well.
Also, we don’t seem to have a top 6 lock in the prospect pool.
The more I think about this, the more I think he stays -
Unless we get an incredible offer and a top 6 NHL ready type prospect or top 4 D prospect.

He certainly was much cheaper to acquire than Rakell. Kuzmenko is an UFA this summer.

Keeping him does nothing to help this team in the long run. This is an unprecedented market, he needs to be moved if these prices hold.BlackNGold4Life wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:04 pmI have a feeling Dubas wants to keep Rakell as he believes he can continue to ice a fringe team capable of making the playoffs while still stock piling picks and younger players.

Unfortunately I think you may be right. All that does is prolong the rebuild. Let’s hope we’re wrong.BlackNGold4Life wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:04 pmI have a feeling Dubas wants to keep Rakell as he believes he can continue to ice a fringe team capable of making the playoffs while still stock piling picks and younger players.

Dallas should look at Rakell if they miss out on Rantanen.

We still have 1 retention slot this season. We should use it.

Exactly. This is the definition of a sellers market. In all likelihood Rakell will not replicate the season he is having this year. If Dubas doesn’t trade Rakell and get a first +, he has failed miserably at his job.Michael74 wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:07 pmKeeping him does nothing to help this team in the long run. What is Buffalo doing? They gave Ottawa Cozens AND a 2nd, for Norris and Bernard-Docker. Shouldn't the 2nd have come from Ottawa, this one is bonkers.

Wonder if Blackhawks would do a Mrazek for Jarry swap? They both stink, but Petr only has a year left on his contract at less amount.

Ehh Kuzmenko is not a player that will add the scoring they require.

14 years and counting with no playoffs! That is absurd. And they had Jack Eichel!Victor wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:20 pmBuffalo is a year away from being many more years away...DeHaven162 wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:17 pmWhat is Buffalo doing? For some reason, I could see us dealing Poulin somewhere today for a draft pick.

Re: Official 2025 trade deadline
Agreed. The time to sell Rakell is now, but in doing so he may feel like we are completely rebuilding and not retooling as Rakells performance and contract are very attractive. This is what gives him such good value, but the Pens value it as well.
I think this is where most of us would disagree with KD, if they keep him. Trying to patch a playoff team when they should be getting the most out of an asset like this

I’d offer the Canes Rakell and the NYR 1st rd pick for Rantanen if he would sign.

Rantanan to Dallas is happening. Friedman said he is signing 8 years $12mill AAV.

It will be even more fitting if Cozens elevates his play after leaving like Eichel and Reinhart did.Pitts wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 12:21 pm14 years and counting with no playoffs! That is absurd. BUF 2nd next year could be a top 40 pick. Certainly a head scratcher.

Maybe the Canes get in on Rakell now. I could see this as he’s contract controlled and they have assets
